hell, i wouldn't mind that deal for the cubs, i didn't think he'd settle for just 2 years.

 

I guess he picked the wrong year to have his worst season. Wasn't Boras talking about 5 years and $100M just three weeks ago?

This is a great deal for the Dodgers. I'd rather have Andruw Jones for $18 million than Torii Hunter, I'd rather spend $36 million on Andruw Jones than Jose Guillen.

For only 2 years, I would have had zero problem seeing the Cubs do this. I highly doubt his steep dropoff last year would have continued.

 

Except, I don't think the Cubs were in a financial position to shell out $18M a year to a CF and still address their other holes.

If Hendry is dead set on getting a speedy lefty I'm sure Pierre could be had now. If they'd take Marquis and send Kemp it might actually be worth doing a deal.

They've been major players for Bedard from the Orioles, so I don't think it's that big of a stretch that they could turn their attention to Santana if they feel they have a shot to trade for him.
