Matt Clement has been hired as the boys' varsity basketball coach at Butler High School in Pittsburgh.

We'll assume that means he has officially hung up his baseball cleats. Clement, 34, stared as a dual athlete at Butler during the early 90s. "I'm very excited and honored to get this opportunity, and I don't take this responsibility lightly," he said Monday. "To coach these kids and lead these kids is something I've always wanted to do."

I'm going to miss that guy. My favorite rotation of the past 15-20 years is still Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Clement.

Yeah, I liked him. It's a shame he flamed out like he did. Arm troubles will do that.

And getting hit in the face. Wasn't that him that got hit in the noggin with a batted ball?

Yes, but his problem is a mangled shoulder. He was topping out at like 85-86 last year in Memphis. It was sad.

His delivery was very stressful on the shoulder to begin with, especially with that hard slider. After he got hit, he started to short-arm his follow-thru because of fear getting hit. Not too long after he came back from getting hit in the head, he got hit again on a comebacker.

During that time of when he was at his best, him and Dotel were the toughest pitchers to pick up for RH'ed batters, they were obviously extremely deceptive.

Only a few years, and two are already out of baseball.

Prior isn't out of baseball yet, although it seems like he is.

Mark Prior reported feeling pain in his shoulder after a bullpen session Tuesday at the Padres' spring training complex.

Sounds about right. The Padres have instructed him to "take a step back" in his rehab, and it's not clear when he'll begin throwing again. "The poor guy just can't seem to get over the hump," said manager Bud Black. "He is doing everything possible for him to come back. ... I hope it works out for him."

Not officially retired, but let's be honest.

Do you think the media just goes and finds old articles about Prior to cut and paste? Because it's the same stuff every time.

He reminds me of Eric Chavez. You hope for the best, but when the guy keeps having the same trouble with the same part of his body over and over...
