Granted, he used a metal bat, but still. It's the longest on record at the Trop now.

The x would be where the ball landed.

since when do they keep records on who hits home runs the farthest during an exhibition? i guess longoria and burrell should break out the metal bats during BP and try to surpass the high school kid.

Have we already locked in Bryce Harper for #1 in 2011?

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Ryan Harvey have "impressive power" using aluminum bats back in the yr he was drafted?

I'm not saying.....I'm just saying.........

I know Meph and Ping have posted some stuff about him in the 09 draft thread but he probably deserves his own thread.

"If Bryce were in the draft this year," says one American League scouting director, "he'd go in the top five picks."

"Wrong," says a National League amateur scouting director. "He'd go higher than that."

Higher than top five?

"Top two," he says. "And that's taking nothing away from the guys in the draft this year. He's honestly that good. He is a once-in-a-generation talent."

What the Harpers are considering, however, is having Bryce earn a GED credential this summer and enroll in a junior college this fall, which would expose him to more challenging baseball competition as well as make him eligible for next June's draft, in which he would likely be the first pick in the country. Under that scenario, assuming the Nationals keep losing games at something close to their current rate (they have the worst record in baseball, and it isn't even close), Washington could wind up with Strasburg and Harper in the next 12 months—the baseball equivalent of the Cavaliers getting James and Dwight Howard in consecutive NBA drafts.

Just came here to post about him... 570 foot home runs??? Surely not officially measured and probably exaggerated?

Dude is HUGE though... and he has a 96 MPH fast ball?

Just wanted to comment how weird it is to me that this guy was born in 1992.

Makes you feel old, doesn't it. :old_givebeer:

Didn't realize Bryce had his own thread already, actually. I'll merge the two.

I just came to post this.

EDIT: Also, this dude would be 100 times cooler if his dad were the ron harper of NBA fame.

ALSO ALSO: This MF is not going to be a catcher, is he? holy moly.

EDIT EDIT: ALSO, ALSO, ALSO: the SI article says he's playing for an Oklahoman traveling team. Which squad is this? I'm guessing that Ping knows.

I can't think of any travel team in OK that was any good. I wouldn't put much stock into it though, as it might be just for the name and maybe 1 game.

I'm not what you would call a fan of travel ball.
