I heard on Mike on Mike this morning that a Manny to SF trade is hot and heavy. There were no mention of names but Mike casually said it during the McGwire HOF debate.

Manny is one of the most automatic bats in baseball. Watching him dance out there in the OF in Wrigley might be nerve wracking, but we might over look it if he put up his usual #'s (say 40/130 and a v. good OBP of around .400).

We would seem like a very very realistic landing place for Manny.

What do you think Bruce?

This trade is not happening. There is not Cubs source who would ever, ever e-mail or utter such a thing. Believe what you will.

Thanks Bruce. Even if it was not the answer I was looking for. When it comes to the Cubs, you are the one that we all believe. Thanks again.

San Francisco has absolutely NO ONE that could net Manny in a trade. Their farm system is terrible and Matt Cain is pretty much their only young player they have who has a promising future.

I like Sanchez a fair amount.

That's about it, though.

It's a fairly blatant ruse.

San Fran only has Matt Cain (whom they wont trade) and Tim Lincecum (whom they can't in good conscience trade). I personally think Sanchez doesn't have that muh value.

Even at that, the Giants just don't have anything the Red Sox would want.

The Red Sox are using the SF rumor to pressure the other teams wanting to trade for Manny. The Giants are using the Manny rumor to try and get Bonds to re-sign quickly.

I think its more than that. I think there is a rule that you have to wait a certain amount of time before trading draft picks.

Curses! I would have liked that deal, especially if Clement were thrown in.

Isn't Clement out for most of, if not all, 2007?

One full year after signing the pick.

Probably. He had his shoulder scoped, and his agent has said he expects "Clement will pitch again." That's not a very strong endorsement of him coming back anytime soon.

My guess is that we've already seen the last of him.

True but I recalled a few years ago which had a player within the one year after being drafted named as a PTBNL. Once the year expired, the player was announced. I think it was Bonderman?

Maybe I'm naive, but I tend to believe Hendry when he really praises Murton and says Pie is untouchable. I suppose he might change his mind for Miguel Cabrera, but I do think Pie and Murton aren't going anywhere.

Oh, I di not know that about Clement. Still, I want Manny to be a Cub in the worst way.

I don't think it's naive. Hendry's actions have backed-up his words regarding those two, at least to this point. I think it's telling that Soriano was signed to that 8 year deal, where everyone in the media suspected he would play LF or CF, and Hendry comes out and says RF.

If Jones sticks around in CF as indicated by Hendry (per Bruce Miles), it's a guy the team has for 2 years at most, so not really blocking Pie long-term. And there hasn't been anything to indicate Murton is to be supplanted in LF.

Further speculation of upgrades coming from the team usually revolve around SS or CF as well, so I don't anything from Hendry to this point indicating he isn't trusting Murton.

According to Ben Maller, the Red Sox are in deep discussions with the Padres regarding Ramirez. One of either Linebrink or Peavy is expected to be included in the deal.

The Red Sox also remained deep in Manny Ramírez trade talks with the Padres, with San Diego sweetening its original offer, according to a source with direct knowledge of the talks. The Padres are offering major league players for Ramírez, a package that presumably would have to include one of two pitchers: prime setup man Scott Linebrink or ace Jake Peavy. The Sox also have coveted Adrian Gonzalez, a lefthanded-hitting first baseman who put up outstanding numbers in his first full season in 2006: .304, 24 home runs, 38 doubles, and 82 RBIs.
