At least the Koyie Hill experiment is over. Too bad it's Blanco that's up instead of Soto, but heck, a dead squirrel would be a better option than Hill at this point.

Roster moves: After Monday's game, the Cubs optioned shortstop Ronny Cedeno to Triple-A Iowa and designated catcher Koyie Hill for assignment. The team did not announce corresponding roster moves, but will likely reinstate Floyd and activate catcher Henry Blanco from the disabled list.

Why not wait 11 days so you can keep Hill on the roster as well? They obviously feel like he has some sort of worth or he wouldn't have been around so long.

Although anyone with a brain could see that Soto would have brought more to the table than Hill the last few months. Nevertheless, a curious move unless Blanco was threatening some sort of grievance for keeping him in the minor leagues.

thats what I thought they were doing the whole time but I guess I was wrong.

There still would be a need to DFA someone even after Sept 1 to bring up Blanco. Blanco by nature of being on the 60-day DL was not counted as being on the 40-man roster. To have him on the team, someone would have to have been removed from the 40-man. This move of DFAing Hill was going to have to happen sooner or later. By doing it now, Blanco is eligible for the postseason roster.

No surprise here. I wonder if Ronny's days with this team have come and gone now that Theriot seems entrenched.

Well, until we get Arod. :D

we're trading for him right now :D

Might as well release Cedeno -- he clearly has no future as a major league baseball player.

I like that Blanco is back. He works well with Z, and although he isn't that good of a hitter he seems to have a knack for coming up with big hits.

I forgot that Cedeno was still on the big league club. He was rarely used and certainly did nothing memorable during the call-up.

He had that one game-tying RBI... but I forgot against who....

Think it was against the Cards.

Cool.

Now watch Cedeno go nuts, putting up ridicilious numbers at Iowa.

Of course, wouldn't be a bad idea to at least try to increase his trade value.

Cedeno's 24. And started 9 games this season. He'll probably never be more than a utility IF, but to write off a guy as CLEARLY having no future as a major leaguer is nuts considering his minor league record since '04.

Koyie Hill worked well with Zambrano too, and he had about as many big hits in his time up as Blanco did in his last 3 seasons.

Welcome back, Henry.

After the crapfest that was catcher for most of the season to this point, good Kendall plus Blanco will seem a godsend.

Koyie: .161 .231 .269 OPS+ 28

"Hank": .251 .302 .395 OPS+ roughly 70

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Henry Blanco is a major upgrade (assuming he doesn't take PT away from Kendall or future PT from Soto, which may be a stretch).

edit: anyone know an easier way on BR.com to total a player's stats with a certain team?

Ummm...

Look at the total they have listed above the teams for that season? Team name is called "TOT"

No, I wanted Blanco's career stats as a Cub, not cumulated stats in auear in which the player was traded . .
