GREGG JEFFERIES: 1st year on the ballot…Played 14 seasons…Named to two All-Star teams (1993, 1994)…Twice received MVP votes (11th – 1993, 17th – 1994)…Three times finished in NL top 10 in batting average (1993-’95)…Led NL in doubles in 1990 (40)…Nine times among top 5 in at-bats per strikeout ratio…Played more than 250 games at four positions (1B, 2B, 3B and LF)…Hit for the cycle, Aug. 25, 1995…Stole 46 bases in 1993…Hit .333 (9-27) in 7 games of only postseason experience (1988 NLCS with Mets).

They really need to change the rules so that every guy who hangs around the major leagues for 10 years gets to be on a ballot. Neifi Perez and John Mabry will probably end up on a ballot, what a joke.

 

So far there seem to have been about 15203598 polls posted, and I've voted for all of one player - Bert Blyleven.

Here's what Gary Gillette had to say about Jeffries.

 

Greg Jefferies, Infielder/Outfielder

An grossly overrated "pure hitter," Jefferies lucked into a 1995 mega-contract after two good seasons in St. Louis that crippled the Phillies for years. As a switch-hitter with speed, Jefferies slashed line drives up the gaps and stole more than a few bases, yet he never really found a position he could hold down -- bouncing from second base to third base to first base to left field. Needless to say, he won't find a position in Cooperstown, either.
