That's great! Add him to Renteria and Cabrera in the class of severely overpaid SS.

Took the words right out of my mouth Raw! Fantastic - now there is little chance we'll end up with him, which was a great fear of mine. Now, can we get Atlanta to give Furcal a multi-year extension deal?

Philadelphia Phun Phact: Jimmy Rollins makes more per year than Terrell Owens.

I've got two words to add to this post -- "Christian Guzman"

LOL -- how much will Neifi be asking for after this season?

Ronny Cedeno your table is ready.

I still think Nomar will be back, if for no other reason than he has nowhere else to go.

The Yankees tried to get him to play 2nd base this year. I can see them trying again. I don't know if Nomar would consider it though.

I would like to think that Nomar feels bad about taking the money and not playing and would agree to another one year contract. However, I don't know if Hendry & Co. will offer one. Fool me once type of thing.

If Cedeno keeps hitting, I think you'll see the Cubs pass on Nomar, re-sign Neifi and break in Cedeno gradually like they're doing with Dubois.

I'm not mistaken, right? The Jimmy Rollins mentioned in this thread is the same Jimmy Rollins that has a sub .700 OPS? And the Christian Guzman you refer to is the same guy that has a sub .500 OPS?

Ouch.

Yes, indeed, those are the ones. I really hope Cedeno keeps hitting!

Are you confident that he'll be able to keep it up? Obviously it's not likely he maintains his .350/.412/.511 line, but do you think he can finish around .300/.360/.475 or is that too optimistic?

If so there wouldn't be much sense in having him repeat AAA.

Haha, that's pretty funny.

I'm sure Drew Rosenhaus (sp?) is already pointing this out on PTI.

LOL. Guzman may have just been benched in favor of Jamie Carroll. I think the Nats even intend on getting Spivey some time at SS, when Vidro comes back.

I'm more in the optimistic than confident range right now with Ronny.

The negative thing about this ridiculous signing from our perspective is that it makes it unlikely Wade feels pressure to cut payroll anytime soon. So the "Wagner in salary dump" trade ideas are pretty much kaput--I mean, if you can afford to pay $8MM to Jimmy freaking Rollins, I think you can afford $9MM to Billy Wagner, no??

Dumping Wagner wouldn't be a salary dump. Philly is in fine shape financially. It was a question of whether they should be sellers due to their place in the standings. Obviously that isn't a concern now, as they are near first in their division and atop the wild card.

Actually the Phillies were $6-7 mil. over their salary budget. Partly because Polanco burned them by accepting arbitration. There was some talk here that Wade would soon have orders to dump salary. The Rollins signing doesn't add much payroll in the short-run and I doubt the Phillies will re-sign Wagner (he's talking about retirement anyway). But i agree, dealiing Polanco and the fact that the Phillies are in contention probably takes them out of seller mode.

And I agree this was a dumb move. One of many by Ed Wade.

Looks like Wade knew something we didn't, I guess.

Rollins is 2-2 tonight with a homer and a double, to extend his hitting streak to 31 games. Since beginning his streak on 8/23, his average has gone from .261 to .287! In the past 10 games, he has had more than 1 hit in 8 of them!

If you look up hot in the dictionary, I believe his picture is next to the definition.
