My buddy is an accountant for Tribune, and he has access to system email addresses of executives. Basically, hes going to send me some addresses, which I will then foward the link of this thread to.

Basically, you guys just have to sign it. Make only a single post, short, and to the point, in support of firing Dusty Baker. This is a petition.

EDIT: the point of this thread, is gasoline on the fire. If it catches the eye of somebody important, its done its job.

they will not care about this board or this thread. They know the fans are upset with Dusty already. They've shown they aren't going to do anything about it. Maybe that will change, but emails linking to a messageboard won't cause it.

Actually, it could hurt. Dusty has shown that he responds to criticism by continuing to do what he was critisized for doing just to prove how big he is because he's the manager.

He might think a thread on a message board saying he should be fired justifies how he does thing.

No, I don't think that's rational.

It's just that a bunch of people hopping in to say fire dusty doesn't show much, especially as the number of "signatures" you get will be small even if every member signs it.

Link to the "Bad managerial decisions" thread... it's a much more interesting and relevant read...

That's actually not a bad idea, because there are always fans who look to the manager whenever a team isn't doing well despite what he's done. We actually have some reasons here.

You unknowingly just gave a very valid reason for Dusty to be fired. SO by crusading against this thread, you may have just helped the cause.

Dusty's inability to field a team that will give the Cubs the best chance to win each day is the reason I want him fired. Well, there are many other reasons, but that is the main one.

Did I somehow give the impression that I didn't want Dusty Fired?

I just don't think this thread will accomplish anything. I've been saying fire Dusty since he started playing Neifi in like January...

You're right. It won't accomplish anything.

Here's a better idea then some petition campaign...by the way, has a manager or coach ever been fired because of a petition? I digress. Here's a better answer, buy stock in the Tribune Co. They're more likely to listen to stockholders than anonymous people who surf on the net. Do you guys really think Hendry and MacPhail haven't heard the, "Fire Dusty" song and dance from talk-shows, letters, e-mail, or just walking in and out of Wrigley?

Interesting Idea.

This is a link to the current Tribune Co. Stock price.

I think it would be interesting if Tim could buy some stock, maybe as little as a share or two, with NSBB funds, in the name of NSBB...He could either incorporate NSBB and get funds from his group of investors (us) or he could take enough $ from premium memberships each month to buy one share or so in his own name and start accumulating them...each year we could then send an NSBB member to the sharholder meetings....the possiblities are endless.

I understand what you're saying, but you have to remember the Tribune Co. is not in business because of the Cubs. Their main interest, and the main interest of their stockholders, is in the business of mass media. So, I don't know how good of an idea it would be to buy stock in a company just because of interest in a small piece of what the company owns. Honestly, I really don't care about KPLR-tv in St. Louis or Los Angeles Times or the other tv and newspapers they own. And if we bought stock, we would have to actually care more about that than the Cubs.

Actually, I would love the idea of being able to say, "I'm a partial owner of the Chicago Cubs."

I'd contribute to a "Help NSBB buy the Cubs" movement.

I would plegde enough money to buy 10 shares if other members were willing to participate in an endeavor.

It would actually help the site in many different ways, aside from just giving us a voice as shareholders. We could all be guaranteed Premium membership for a period of time, Tim could possibly expand the site, etc.

"Help NSBB buy the Cubs"

I love it...although I think it might take a substantial increase in premium fees.

And I don't know if we'd have the revenues to go out and sign top-notch FA's, either.

I'd kick in something...maybe a share or two. It would be an interesting experiment in fan partcipation, as well as an attempt to legitimize what is otherwise random complaining. Any dividends from the investment could be reinvested in NSBB....(Speaking of which...if Tim ever wants to encorporate NSBB, I'd be interested in becoming an investor...It'll be interesting to see where this sight goes in the next 5-10 years)...

How much does Trib stock trade for?

And I don't think this would work. Even if you did get a bunch of NSBB'ers together, is there ANY issue that we agree 100% on? I don't think there is.

We're not 100% in agreement on firing Dusty, roster moves, transactions, how money should be spent, etc.

And even if you had a 100% "Fire Dusty" contingent, if you wanted to branch out on other issues, you'd be split on those.

Tribune isn't doing so well these days. It closed today at 36.58. It's 52 week high is 44.32, 52 week low is 34.53. It's been in a pretty steady decline since a high in the low 50's back in Feb 04. Throughout '02 & '03 the stock hovered in the 40's.
