Who do you think it is?

I bring up this topic, because I went to the Phillies site to see Rollins' statistics, and I saw that Kenny Lofton was batting .328

I assumed that he had sub 100 ABs, so I decided to check out his stats, and although he hasn't played the whole season, he has had a tremendous year.

He's batting .328 in 345 ABs, with 21 SBs, and only 3 times has he been caught stealing.

Brian Giles. While he isn't under-rated on this site I think the baseball world doesn't appreciate just how valuable he is to an offense. I would think with his career stats he would be closer to superstar status than he is.

I think Cabrera too. For all the talk about how great Pujols is, Miggy is better at a younger age. He can also play both corner OF spots decently, is a good 3B, and could probably play a slightly below average SS if needed.

THIS GUY HAS SAVED US!!!

Ok, this was just an excuse to put up that ridiculous picture. Was the hat photoshopped on? Did they just place a kids' hat on his head and it didn't fit? Was it an inflatable hat?

I'm a big fan of Cabrera, but how is he "better than Pujols at a younger age?"

Cabrera's highest season OPS (this year) is a few points lower than Pujols' worst season (2002). Cabrera is 22 now, and Pujols was 22 in 2002.

I'd call Pujols the better fielder, too. He was better at third than Cabrera, and he actually played short in a game in 2002.

There's no question that Cabrera is a better value than Pujols. Pujols is the second-best 1B in baseball this year and makes $11 million. Cabrera is the second-best LF in baseball this year (behind Jason Bay) and makes $370,000.

I'd be glad to have them both, of course.

Cabrera, Hafner, Oswalt, Wright, Mark Teixeira, Chad Cordero, Jason Bay, Jake Peavy are all criminally ignored by the Red Sox/Yankees media elite.

Those two teams could playing each other fighting for last place and still be the first highlight shown on ESPN.

Jake Peavy.

A year ago I would have said Mark Loretta.

I'm thinking that pretty much any player on the West Coast not named Ichiro or Bonds can qualify.

This is going to sound silly, I know, but...

Albert Pujols.

Before I get my butt kicked, think about it. Outside of our rivalry with the Cards (which constantly brings him up), he isn't thought of as being as great as he is. He's the only guy to ever have his first 5 seasons be .300, 30, 100 RBI seasons. For all his talent, he's never gotten an MVP, and from what ESPN says, he'll lose it to Andruw Jones this year, which is a crime. Anyone outside the Central Division for MVP is a joke.

Pujols in pinstripes or a Fenway would be lauded as this generations Joe Dimaggio. Instead, he's going to be as overlooked as Ryno.

Okay... more popular thoughts of mine... Ryan Dempster (he's been locking dudes down for 3 months now), Jake Peavy (best pitcher in the NL (besides Rocket), hands down), Jason Bay (kills everyone!), and Brian Giles.

Go ahead and shred me.

Cabrera on the road this year: 1.016 OPS

Definitely any west coast stars. Most of the major sports media outlets are based in the East, and they certainly don't give much press to players whose games don't end until 1:30AM ET

I did that same thing, too. I was shocked to see how well he's playing. Any chance of this veteran becoming one of Baker's Boys next year?

Oh, and Hafner is terribly underrated, along with Cliff Lee and (this year) Kevin Millwood.

Which is still well below what Pujols does on a regular basis.

If you use stats like Win Shares and VORP, Cabrera isn't on the same level as Pujols this year, and wasn't even on the same planet last year.

Compare Cabrera's season at age 22 with Pujols season at age 22, much fairer and much closer.

But do we know for sure what season Pujols was really 22 in? Or if he ever was 22 in a major league season? :D

Let's not get carried away with arguing about who's better: Pujols or Miggy. The sad thing is that ESPN's obsession with Boston, New York, and Bonds is taking time away from some truely great baseball. Guys like DLee, Pujols, Lee, Peavy, Texiaria, Hafner, Ensberg, Bay, Giles and so on, along with rivalries and pennant races are completely forgotten about because of such a committment to the NY/Bos thing.

In 50 years, some people are going to look back on this era of baseball and be amazed by the greatness of people that aren't ever talked about.
