In today's UTK, it seems as though Carroll takes a little shot at the Cubs, though we can't be certain. Excerpts are available on the BP website to anyone, since it's in the free part of the article.

This column is about injuries. That’s simple enough--who got hurt, how badly, and how it affects the player and his team. You’d hardly think that I’d spend a better portion of my day getting angry e-mails from team officials that don’t want me to give away information that’s right there for all to see.

I’m not saying that there aren’t accidents, incidents, and things truly outside the scope of any team's ability to control, but trying to hide the problem rather than fix it is a good way to keep your team in fourth place. Not that I’m naming names.

Trying to hide the problem rather than fix it certainly sounds like the Cubs to me - and this obviously fits in with the 4th place part. If there are team officials actually sending him angry e-mails about his columns, then I've become even more disappointed with the entire structure of this team's management. Carroll was the first to report Prior's injury - and so they're angry? A little ridiculous, if you ask me.

Yeah, expecting him to beat the timeline back is definitely good news. Hopefully he's right about this one, too.

We all take shots at the Cubs every day. Why can't Will Carroll? I say good for him.

I'm not against it. I'm just pointing it out, since the Cubs weren't explicitly mentioned.

Oh, I know. My post wasn't really directed at yours. Sorry for the confusion.

Of course it's the Cubs, and since Carroll is a Cub fan, he's not saying anything that hundreds of other Cub fans haven't already expressed. I doubt team officials are sending him angry e-mails.

why would he lie about that?

Will Carroll's a tool.

why do you say that?

Self-important, passes himself off as a medical expert with no real qualifications whatsoever.

He doesn't pass himself off as a doctor, but he does know a whole hell of a lot about injuries related to baseball. The guy is an expert, whether you'd like to believe it or not.

My bad, I skimmed the first part of your post without comprehending it. I didn't think he was inferring that he was getting angry e-mails.

You're right. It sounds like very petty behavior by the Cubs if true. And considering their reaction to the initial reports that hit the media, it doesn't sound out of character. It seems the team has a kind of bunker mentality when it comes pitchers' injuries, why that is and what that gains them I do not know. It's dissapointing.
