The Cardinals are close to signing Adam Kennedy to a three-year deal worth about $10 million, according to FOXSports.com.

 

That'd be a very good deal. It had looked like Kennedy would get about $15 million for three years. He's not going to be blocking anyone in St. Louis, so the lengthy contract isn't a problem. The team could use a right-handed hitter to platoon with him, and Aaron Miles isn't a great option.

Man, why do the Cubs have to be too dumb to find the bargains like this? I probably like Kennedy's bat a little better than DeRosa's, but DeRosa is a better fielder and offers value as a utility guy.

 

In any case, good, smart signing by the Cards (unfortunately).

They're also about to sign Kip Wells, Gary Bennett, and Eli Marrero(Marrero is a minor league deal).

You know Kip Wells wouldn't be a bad idea. I would take a chance on him.

As much as I hate to say it, this is a good signing by the Cards. Kennedy isn't great, but he's not bad either. His contract is a bargain in this market.

 

League-average OBP for a second baseman, at just over $3M per? Absolute bargain. Hell, Juan Pierre can't put up an average OBP and he'll be making three times that much.

Because most players don't want to play for the Cubs unless they are get a premium deal. Something about 98 years, day games, and two months of hitting with a turtle neck and stocking cap!

Kennedy is pretty solid with the glove over at 2b. That is why Mike Scioscia wanted him back.

Kennedy is alright, but watch Duncan turn Kip Wells into the next Chris Carpenter.

 

yep yep.

 

would be nice if we could acquire some serviceable players at decent prices and then just get good performances from them. But no. It's the Cubs, so we must pay through the nose for premium players and hope they just lift us to the playoffs on their own.

I'd rather have Derosa than Kennedy.

 

And Kip Wells was brutal last year. 4 million dollars for a guy who put an ERA of 6.50? Unbelievable.

Wells was good as recently as two years ago, but since then has had pretty significant health problems. I have no doubt that he'll be healthy this year and put up an ERA+ in the 120-130 range.
