Maybe the Cubs will remember Asia exists.

With the help of Asian scout Steve Wilson, their minor league player procurement knows about Asia (they spent approx $1 million in signing bonuses on two guys this summer).

And Kosuke Fukudome would be a nice addition to the Cubs outfield.

Fukudome was the guy I had specifically in mind when I made this thread.

What kind of numbers is he putting up this year?

What kind of contract is he likely to demand?

What kind of numbers could we expect next year?

Fukudome.

Fukudome.

FUKUDOME.

What I can find so far - .294 AVG/.443 OBP, 13 HR, 48 RBI. Here are his career stats before this season: link. Kosuke is a real free agent so there won't be a posting fee. I'm sure he'd want a contract of at least 4-5 years, he probably could get at least $10 million/year.

From all I can tell, you can expect a good OBP, gap power but not more than 15-20 HR.

Bad news for Vance's future jersey purchasing endavors:

I've also told him that he wants to have "Kosuke" on his uniform if he plays here. He doesn’t want to have "Fukudome."

We don't need him! Our new right fielder is hitting 1.000

Seriously, I think he's been out for most of the year hasn't he? I think he had elbow surgery but if everything is ok, I'd definitely take a look at him.

Fukudome would be an excellent addition. Soriano, Pie, and Fukudome would be an excellent outfield. If Pie struggles or doesn't develop, Fukudome could move to CF and the Cubs could find a corner OF pretty easily.

I hope whoever the GM is will see the value in signing him.

A lot could depend on who the new ownership will be, but hopefully he/she/they will recognize the value to signing him.

So... Perhaps a somewhat more successful Matt Murton?

He plays GG caliber CF defense. A lesser version of Grady Sizemore is more comparable. I think he can hit 20 home runs. Chunichi's park is the equivalent of the Petco when it comes to hitting homers.

Well, whether he's a lesser version of Grady Sizemore or a more successful Matt Murton, I'm not sure he's a good idea for the Cubs. At his age and probable price, I just don't see him being a good option unless we just absolutely believe we need him in center.

He's a perfect fit for the Cubs.
