This is ridiculous that the Astros are throwing out another terrible, no-name pitcher. I'm surprised MLB hasn't sent them a letter because they sure aren't "keeping competitive" like Selig wants all teams to do no matter where they are in the standings. Oh, wait... Selig has ties to the Brewers and would love to see them in the playoffs. Nevermind.

those two off days are gonna be very painful for the Cubs (what with having to watch Milwaukee gain a 1/2 game while they sit at home)

They're facing Atlanta on the road, so hopefully their road woes continue and Atlanta takes 3 out of 4.

I'm hoping for an Atlanta sweep!! Milwaukee's road woes will continue!!!

I found this interesting. When Houston decided to pitch the two rookies instead of Williams and Oswalt:

Tal Smith, the Astros interim general manager, called Cubs general manager Jim Hendry to let him know about the switch. Astros manager Cecil Cooper also called Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig in a preemptive move.

If you read later in the article, there's a great little rant from Floyd about it.

It's simply ridiculous. And of course the Reds won't do the same for us. Not that I expect them to, I just expect some modicrum of decency to prevail in a pennant race.

Who's getting paid on this one? Seriously.

Atlanta will mysteriously switch out their starters for 3 tomato cans. Oh but they'll send a form letter around beforehand, so it's O.K.

I understand the feelings you all are having but I hope the Cubs stay focused on what they have to do and not anything else.

I'm sure they will and I'm sure it's not that big of a deal to them. But it is a little ridiculous that the Astros throw out 3 garbage, no-name pitchers in games that are supposed to matter.

The Cubs often have problems with pitchers like that! :D

I would be pissed about it too if I were a Cubs fan, but that is just the nature of being out of contention in September. Organizations want to get a look at young talent to see if it fits in their future plans.

And are you really whining about the Brewers missing Woody Williams? The guy has stunk it up this year. To me, a rookie pitcher has more to prove and is more likely to give it his all in a game like this than Woody Williams, who has no future with the organization.

And Oswalt should just tell his wife to not have the baby or just go it alone while he pitches to keep the Brewers out of the playoffs? Things like that happen and the timing is unfortunate, but Oswalt can't miss the birth of his child.

Bottom line is, you can be mad about it as fans (I know I would as a Brewers fan), but no way should a player be whining about it in the media. Give the cliche answer "If we take care of our business, we don't have to worry about the other team" and play ball. I find it hilarious that Floyd would actually comment on this.

Finally, the Astros lineup has managed to put up 1 run in 18 innings, so Cy Young could be on the mound and it wouldn't have mattered. And the Stros had their A-lineup in each game (with the exception of Pence sitting last night).

The Brewers just got done taking 2 of 3 from the Reds team that has given it their all and the Cubs can still do the same. Play ball!

quit your whining. yeah, it sucks, but the cubs missed oswalt twice and webb when they were in arizona. the cubs shouldn't need the astros help to win 85 games.

No, but it would be nice if the Astros could help prevent the Brewers from winning 85 games.
