For the true fan, no doubt about it.

What I speak of is the fans out there who like the idea of the team who hasnt won in almost a century. It could be a disaster for merchandising after they get out the initial run of World Champion Cubs merchandise.

Think about it, half of the mystique surrounding the Chicago Cubs to the common fan is that 99 year draught, and while 99 years is impressive, and by impressive I mean pathetic, 100 years would be legendary.

I remember before 2004, Red Sox nation was just as big as Cubs nation, but 2 years later, there just another perennial contender with a lot of money to throw around.

Im all about the Cubs marching all the way to the end, and doing so for many years to come, but I bet if it were to happen, there would be a lot of fans out there who would drop off. Sure, I know what your going to say, who needs 'em, and I agree, but still Its an interesting thought.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the term Cubs Nation? I just hate being put into a stereo type thing.

I don't think the Cubs would lose fans and I also think they would actually gain a bigger fan base because of it.

Aren't the Bo Sox still hugely popular?

I see what you are trying to get at LLF, but I don't think I agree that's how it plays out. Ask any BoSox fan if they would like to go back to the days when they hadn't won one in 88 years.

Yes. The magnitude of the drought adds more intensity to times like this when they're within sniffing distance of the playoffs, but they will always have a broader fanbase which shrinks and grows along with the Cubs' success in a given season.

agree, the Cub Nation stuff bugs the crap out of me. The "Nation" stuff is almost always hung on a negative.

And, yes, it would be terrible if the Cubs won the World Series.

Where does this crap come from?

Who gives a crap about any of it? Just win the damn World Series already. I don't care if I have to be the next Hester Prynne, just win it.

All those long-suffering Cubs' fans would finally get to see a World Series victory. That would be horrible. I hate happiness.

Are you kidding me? If anything the Red Sox Nation has been stronger since they won the World Series. The psyche of the Red Sox fans remains the same. They get pissed when their players aren't performing well, have an unbelievable inferiority complex towards the Yankees, and still freak out when New York is in their rear view. And don't believe when Bill Simmons insecurely tries to make it seem like hes not worried.

The Cubs would change not at all if we won the World Series.

thanks for adding to the stereotype that cubs fans only cheer for the cubs because the cubs suck and we'd really be pissed if the cubs won the world series.

I'm going to the game today and I really hope they lose because I only like the Cubs because they lose. Losing makes them lovable, and I love lovable losing losers.

I'd like nothing more than for the Cubs to shed all the dopes who actually think losing is somehow lovable.

I'd give a nut, maybe both.

See, I'm smart. I gave Ken Griffey's right nut. Not mine.

Obviously most people didnt notice that I mentioned that the true fans would love it and stay true, however the world wide Cubs fans who simply find the team "trendy" would stop caring, not that they matter to us, however from a marketing stand point, it could hurt.
