Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants will part ways after this season, according to Bonds' Web site.

Bonds cites a recent conversation with Giants owner Peter McGowan, in which McGowan told Bonds his play this year exceeded expectations but that the orginization decided this would be Bonds' last season with the team.

Want a hint as to where he'd land? Best idea is to look at the Team DH stats. Boston can afford him, but they have Ortiz. Same with the White Sox, but Thome is fine there. The Yankees could use his bat, but do they want to take him on, and does he want to go there?

I think the best bet is the Angels. They definitely have money, they definitely have lack of offense from the DH spot (.693 OPS? that's atrocious) and they should offer a pretty good chance at winning a title next season.

Oh great, he'll be the Randy Moss of MLB next year. Disgruntled, aging and controversial superstar tries to reinvent himself and win a championship. Hopefully Barry will hold my TV hostage much like Moss has done this year. I love it when no matter which station I turn to, I know I'm going to hear the same story at some point or another.

I've long thought that the best way to improve on a last place finish is to get rid of your best player.

It is when your best player is selfish, injury-prone, and has a huge salary that doesn't give the team flexibility to sign other players.

Tim Kurkjian was on baseball tonight saying how he felt that Bonds could really help someone, but he didn't see any suitors given the baggage. He also mentioned he would have to take a big paycut from $15 mill this year.

I don't understand it. Any AL team that gets Bonds for $10 million is getting a steal.

I understand it. He'll give you great numbers, but in 120 games or fewer. PLus he's difficult to get along with.

The way I see it, he has three options:

1. Sign with a team where his shtick will not overshadow everything else and may pay him what he will ask for: NYY, Boston.

2. Sign for a lot less to play for a team where he will be a huge distraction, but will put butts in otherwise empty seats. At a huge discount.

3. Retire.

For a contender in the AL, he could be huge. He'd be good for more AB's as a DH, and can even come off the bench in crucial moments when he's not starting. In a pennant race or the playoffs, I could name few guys I'd rather trot out there in a big situation than a 43 year old Barry Bonds. The numbers he still puts up in one of the biggest parks in baseball are absurd.

Fans will get over the steroid thing real quick.

One way I could see the BoSox getting involved, even with Ortiz, is if the Yanks get involved. I think he has to go to a contender, though. Not a team who's hoping to get better. He can push a contender over the top, but I wouldn't build a team around a 44 year old DH. That's why I can't see Texas as a good fit.

For the $10 million or so he would fetch, he's worth every penny to the right team, baggage and all.

Angels seem like the perfect fit

Moreno will want nothing to do with him and his image.

I see this scenario in a lot of situations. The question is how much does it drive down his price? I would be surprised if more than 3 teams make a somewhat legitimate offer for him. How much does that drive down his price and how big of a pay cut is he willing to accept? Keep in account that ballplayers use their income as an ego booster/importance barometer and no one has an ego like Mr. Bonds.
