this is the one of the worst situations I have been able to watch. Hollandsworth has had a good two weeks this year that is it, yet Dusty Baker plays him every day over a kid who has shown more ability than Hollandsworth. I can't stand Dusty Baker for these reasons. I can look past some of the smaller things like not bunting or bunting in some situations. That is just a difference in philosophy. He makes some terrible in game decisions and those are well noted, but it is his loyalty to bad players that has me furious. I want Dusty outta town and you can send Hollandsworth with him. I like him off the bench, but seeing him every day has gotten me tired of him all together.

Baker doesn't love Holly. He is just addicted to the idea of playing savvy veterans over inexperienced rookies.

the funny thing is if Dusty played Cedeno and Murton everyday our bench/late inning PH's would be absolutely strong with Holly-Perez comng into pinch hit-Some things he does I just don't understand-did I mention Murton is hitting over .400-I know, too small a sample, but what if he is the "REAL DEAL" AND CAN HIT .320-.350 EVERY YEAR? yet he is riding the bench behind a has been/never was hitting .230? go figure

According to DustyBall, Gerut has not yet attained the rank of "Established Veterean". Another 5 years of mediocre performance and sky's the limit for Gerut playing under Dusty.

No, 10man, upon reviewing my Dusty handbook, the reason Gerut isn't playing is that he's from the AL. You need at least half a season in the NL to adapt to NL pitching before you can start getting PT. It works the same way as the rookie rule in that the player must sit on the bench to learn the new pitchers, but after that half season is up, they don't have enough in the batter's box experience to handle them, thus they're sent out or sent down to get some regular PT.

Why doesn't he just start Gerut against RH? Better defense, better splits against RH, it doesn't make sense.

It is becuause he loves Hollandsworth. Holly has been here Gerut hasn't. Holly "knows" the NL pitchers. Holly filled in for Sammy last year. Holly never swears. Holly. Holly. Holly. That is why.

yeah I know I am totally blown away that day in day out we have to watch Hollandsworth hit little pop-ups, strike out, and get a meaningless hit 2 out of every 10 ab's. Your right he is solid off the bench, but if Dusty doesn't understand how to use him, then take him away from Dusty. I prefer to just fire the idiot, and two of my friends in San Fran laugh at me everyday because we have this idiot managing us and they don't have to watch that trash anymore. Murton has done everything he can to earn the everyday spot. Dusty just doesn't think he hit .350 in the minors against righties only lefties. Oh and can I remind you that black skin handles the heat better. Dusty is an idiot and has proved it over and over.

Murton will start tonight since a lefty is throwing.

The Cubs face another lefty, Brad Halsey, on Thursday. Sadly, I find myself looking ahead in the schedule to see when the Cubs face a lefty so I can see Murton and maybe even Cedeno in the lineup.

Stubbornly falling in love with players even though better options are available is Dusty's trademark. And its not just a veteran thing. The Grudz/Walker thing was terrible.

It's maddening. Why not take a chance on an unknown rather than continue with the known uselessness of Hollandsworth. I just don't get it.

After watching Felipe Alou's Keystone Kops moves with his bullpen last night they shouldn't be laughing too much.

Seriously. He had to be hoping the Cubs scored because if the game went too long into extras, he'd have been in trouble.

I think Murton sitting while Hollandsworth sucks is angering me more than Dubois sitting while Hollandsworth sucked earlier in the year. I'm pretty sure Murton, a contact hitter with good patience, can handle right handers.

With each passing day, I hope more and more that there's a new manager for the Cubs next season.

Larry Dierker has been shown some love around here. He would be a decent choice, though, Fredi Gonzalez likely tops my list.

I'm pretty sure that Murton will get the nod...I'm not so sure about Cedeno. Neifi has actually hit left-handers better than righties this season. He's also had clutch hits in consecutive days, so I'm thinking that might even further strengthen Dusty's convictions.

I'm hoping Cedeno plays though..

We'll be facing lefty's two straight days and again on Thursday. Murton should get all of those starts, but who wants to bet that Hollandsworth gets at least one of them.

Cubs.com now has Tomko starting against Z on Wednesday instead of Rueter. So, I imagine Hollandsworth will get a start in the next two games.

The thing I love is now that 0-fer-Gerut is on the team, he has passed up Murton on the PH depth charts too. Maybe we should make a backdoor agreement to "loan" Cedeno and Murton from us to play for like 1/2 the season and then trade them back to the Cubs next July as grizzled veterans.

I'll bet Murton gets the starts -- if there are three straight lefties facing the Cubs. I dislike Hollandsworth starting, as I said back in March, but isn't Murton's average benefitting from his first start? I thought with his hit last night, he's now 4-16. I like the kid, but I'm not sure yet if he's Bo Hart or a real everyday player. My main contention is that we should've gotten a bonafide leftfielder in the offseason (as I still scratch my head wondering why so many people were hoping we weren't going to get Cliff Floyd), hopefully we can still get one.

Gerut has not passed up Murton on the ph chart. You're going overboard now. If the first pinch-hitter up is against a lefty pitcher, do you really think Gerut would get the call?

Yeah Alou made some bogus moves last night, but he isn't know for making terrible in game decisions like Dusty. With him being a players manager he is supposed to attract guys to come play in Chicago, but if I was a young player I would want nothing to do with the Cubs. Murton is the obvious choice of the fans and probably the GM, but Dusty keeps trotting out Holly. Personally I think that he is digging his own grave, cause I think he is making Hendry mad with the decisions to play the vets over the young guys. Murton was brought up to play and see if he would be a legitimate guy to man LF next year so we don't have the same terrible outfield we do now. I never thought I would say Burnitz is the Cubs best outfielder, but he's been a pleasant surprise in my mind (Don't get me started on him hitting 4th though.) As for managers next season, I'd love to see Girardi, but I think he is gonna wait out the Yanks managerial position. Also, I like the idea of Mark Grace, but don't think he has the coaching experience you look for, Grace is more a future candidate. We have Grady Little in the organization and many people thought it was Hendry's move to keep him in the org. so he could be the manager when Hendry finally had enough of the toothprick.

He's actually 9-22 now.

In his first start he went 2-2, but in the starts since then he's gone 0-2, 0-4, 1-3, 4-5, and 1-2 with 2 walks. A total of 8-18 as a starter.

Pinch-hitting he's 1-4 with a walk.
