He's clearing out his office as we speak. WEEI is surmising that he may take a year off or he may even get out of baseball as he's a very bright young businessman who has made lots and lots of contacts while he's been in Boston.

As someone else said - life just got VERY interesting for Red Sox fans!!

It'll be really interesting to see what direction the Red Sox take in hiring their new GM. Will they continue with a Moneyball-type of approach?

Also, I was starting to think one of these two deals with AZ was going to happen if Epstein hadn't quit:

Conor Jackson & Luis Gonzalez for Manny & Cash

or

Chad Tracy, Carlos Quentin, & Luis Gonzalez for Manny, Cash, & Prospects

But now? I'm not so sure about that.

Wow. Can't say I saw this coming. Oh, and btw on the Hendry vs. Epstein polls, I would take Epstein over Hendry in a heartbeat. :D

The thing I'd love to know (but I'm sure we never will) is what all the reasons were behind this:

Boston sources right now are saying it had nothing to do with $ or length of contract, but rather to do with personality issues between him and Luchino. Makes me wonder whether there were conflicts in how each wanted the future direction of the team and organization to go, or whether it was just a matter of "we don't want to work together anymore."

Well, there was a witch on ESPN2's Cold Pizza who cast a spell to break the "Curse of the Billy Goat" this morning for the Halloween Episode. She said the Cubs would win it all in 2007 (99 years since 1908, 9+9= 18 = number of new beginning) and that you'd see some big moves start to happen in the Cubs' favor this offseason.

That's beyond ludacris. That's just dumb (and admittedly creepy if true).

Depo will take over in Boston and Theo joins the Yankees just a hunch.
Gee, Brian Cashman will be surprised after he just signed a 3 year deal. Depo has no chance there. He's has no people skills according to all reports and that won't fly in Boston as the GM.

what?! i thought he just signed a 3 year extension. :?

Yeah, that's what I heard on WMVP at 4:20.

That's because they based thier "news" on a "report"...the deal wasn't finished, everyone just assumed it would be.

Too bad he won't run the Cubs, as Hendry looks like he's going to stick aroudn at least through this year.

Gammons said Esptein might just take the year off. Maybe the Cubs will look at him in 2007 after Hendry blows it again this year.

At this point we need to take whatever help we can get.
