The basics of the article are that Loria was ragging on the umpire and Girardi asked him to stop. Loria then lened in the dugout and blasted Girardi acording to some; some say he didnt. After the game Loria cleared out the clubhouse and had a meeting with the players and coaches for 75 min. Others say it was just the opposite.

The feeling in the clubhouse is that Girardi has an out if the Cubs job comes open.

Let the spasms of speculation here begin.

Oh Lord, don't tease me like this...please, PLEASE be true. I'll suffer the rest of the year with Dusty running the team if it means Girardi can be there opening day in 2007.

That would make Hendry's actions somewhat acceptable and understandable.

Valid point by you.

Hope this is true. Girardi as Cubs manager would make me very. very happy.

If hendry get Girardi I'll take back every bad thing I said about him, and I'll shower him with lovely affection.

That may be overstating it...heh...but it would be a good start to fixing his mess.

Does Cabrera have a similar out clause???

The clause is he makes far too few outs to fit in with this ballclub. Needs to work on his aggressiveness, speed, defense, hustle and other intangibles before he would be worthy of putting on the Cubs pinstripes.

Since Hendry's job will depend on his next hire I'm curious if he would go to a "new" guy like Joe. I'd like to see it happen and maybe since Joe is an ex liked Cub that might help.

Joe is new, but has also done some nice things with the Marlins, that Jim might see him as less of a long shot now. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

This thread is a tease.

I'll tell myself that too and yes, it is a tease. Sadly, not just for Joe but the thought Baker won't be in the Cub dugout in 2007.

I'm not that excited about Joe. I'll never forget the time he said he noticed something wrong with a pitcher's delivery (Lieber?), but he didn't say or do anything about it at the time. The guy who it was went under the knife short after. I haven't watched much of Joe's new team, but I feel he's probably one of those old school bunt and run, give up outs and play the established mediocre vet kind of guys. It's hard to judge him on a team where his only choice is to play kids. But his team does have the 2nd most cost stealings and one of the lower SB% in the league, indicating they run a lot despite not being good at it (sign of a manager that doesn't mind running into outs). I really don't know what Joe's beliefs are, but I'm skeptical. My dislike for Dusty's ways might just mean anybody would be an improvement. But I'm not going to long for Joe just because he's not Dusty.

I honestly don't clearly understand the love for Joe, can someone help me out with this? I know Baker isn't liked, I'm one of those people, however I respect this boards views and usually agree. Just curious on what exactly Joe would bring to this team.

You hear this about players, usually, but I think Girardi has upside as a manager. I think he knows enough about the game to be effective. I don't know if he's the best choice for a non-rebuilding team, because I think it's hard to ask him to compete with anything less than a great team due to his lack of experience. He does seem to be more of a small-ball guy than I like, but I don't see any problem with his handling of pitchers so far.

BTW, I thought Girardi's out clause was if the Yankees job became available.

What do we know about any young manager or guy that's been a coach the whole time once they are in charge. It is hard to get a gauge on him but I have this thing for ex-catchers for managers. Not a blind any catcher will do thing but a thing just the same.

Naturally, it's what ballplayers do. He needs to become a ballplayer.
