I'm going to the games this weekend and was wondering what time the gates to the bleachers open and what time I should get in line for a friday afternoon game in order to get good seats. Also, anyone know how much the construction has affected the red line from river north to the park and back?

The Red line is a mess from River North. I jump on at Grand and the last time I rode it, I had to take it a stop backwords, transfer the the Brownline track, then jump on a Redline train there. That was about a week ago. Give yourself some extra time.

When is all this train stuff supposed to be finished? I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency downtown in August for the Cards series and not sure if I should take the train or cab to the field. There will be 3 of us, going to two games.

2009. And I'm not joking. Life's hard for the Red Line.

I am now avoiding at all costs.

The worst part is that the only major improvements being made are that the Fullerton and Belmont platforms will be handicap accessible. And slightly cleaner.

As for getting there, gates open 2 hours before opening pitch. if you show up 3 hours before first pitch, you'll probably get a front row seat. if you show up 2 hours before first pitch, you'll sit in the second or third row and won't have sat on your ass on a concrete sidewalk for at least an hour.

Gates open 2 hours before the game starts. Get to the park early, hang out at Murphy's or somewhere that you can see the line, and you should be able to tell when to hop in. For the Cards game a few Saturdays ago, I was in line about 45 mins before the gates opened, the line was already starting to wrap around Wrigley, but we had great seats. Other times there have hardly been lines at all and I have gone in after the gates opened, and still been able to get great seats. There really is no set time, IMO. Just make sure you are there a little before the gates open in case the line is getting long. There is a ton of fun to be had while waiting if there is no line.

These same questions have to be asked at least weekly.

Well, that's because some of us don't live a block from Wrigley or frequent Wrigleyville on a regular basis. Also, the people on this board tend to be knowledgeable and helpful in such areas.

Additionally, the far left field bleachers are the last to fill up. If you get there and it seems pretty crowded, ty far left field, its a great view.

thanks for the replies fellas...so with the mess theyve made of the Red line, would taking a bus the whole way be faster?

Honestly, it's probably the same. Buses are more sporadic than trains, but trains will run slower due to construction. Unless you plan on taking a cab, you're probably going to run into the same hassles.

However, if you have a dirigible. . .

The Red Line is not that bad, especially if you're going to be heading to the game 3 hours early. If you've got some extra time, just take it. If you've got some extra cash, just take a cab. But it's not like the L takes hours to get from downtown to Addison.

I love left field. I wouldn't sit anywhere else.

I went to a game a couple weeks ago and it took me a half an hour to get from Fullteron to Belmont (a mile).

You could always just take the Ravenswood aka Brown Line all the way and get off at Addison or Southport and walk a few blocks.

I'm pretty sure both of those stops are closed.
