I really like this new rule. Now your not totally screwed if your player decides to pull a JD Drew.

f a team doesn't sign a pick in the first or second round, it gets a pick in essentially the same slot in the next draft. Previously, unsigned first-rounders merited a pick at the end of the supplemental first round. Unsigned picks beyond that drew no compensation. So if the Pirates didn't sign the No. 4 pick this year, they would get a pick just after No. 4 next year (which would be labeled as 4-A).

bud_is_wiser: All right, well who's your pick

HowardTheDuck: brien taylor

bud_is_wiser: The Yankees have picked Brien Taylor every year since 1992.

Also, for your convenience:

3. Cubs. Chicago would have taken Vitters had Kansas City passed, but there's no shame in taking Indiana prep righthander Jarrod Parker, who showed electric stuff all spring. A rumor that the Cubs would overdraft Virginia first baseman/lefthander Sean Doolittle circulated in the final days before the draft, but he's a target at No. 48, not at No. 3.

Projected Pick: Jarrod Parker, rhp, Norwell (Ind.) HS.

Not too interesting, but worth posting:

BA's Draft Dope[/url]"]Scouting Director: Tim Wilken (first year: 2006)

Order in 2007 Rotation: 3rd

Extra Picks: Supplemental first round (48th, for loss of Type B free agent Juan Pierre to Dodgers)

Lost Picks: Second round (68th, for signing Type A free agent Alfonso Soriano)

Trend: The Cubs have spent plenty of money at the top of the draft in recent years, and they usually aren't afraid to go off the board if they believe in a player's talent. However, it sounds like the budget has tightened with the club being sold and on the heels of last year's spending spree, which included the huge deal for Jeff Samardzija.

This Year's Outlook: Chicago has no second-rounder and was bearing down on picks 3 and 48. Scouting director Tim Wilken likes up-the-middle players, but the Cubs need help everywhere.

In short:

-Fastball-slider-changeup pitcher.

-Works in the low to mid 90s with his fastball, has touched 99.

-Slider is a plus pitch.

-Changeup is a work in progress, but could become a plus pitch.

-A bit on the short side (6'1/6'2) and needs to fill out a little bit.

He's probably the second best HS RHP behind Porcello.

Mostly straight fastball, but unusually good command of it.

Kerry Wood redux ?

When did Kerry Wood have good command of the fastball?

Well, that day he could've yelled to the Astro hitters, "I'm going to throw my curveball now", and they still would've looked like cartoon characters trying to hit it.

True, it looked like he was throwing a whiffle ball to Astro hitters that day.

I really hope Parker pans out if he "IS" the guy. IIRC high school right handed pitchers have the highest flame out rate of any position picked. I just hope the Cubs catch a break on this pick and the kid pans out.

After drafting Pawelak out of HS not too long ago, I'm worried that Parker will share the same fate.

This year: Parker is 10-0 with a 0.13 ERA and 101 strikeouts. Norwell, which plays Saturday in the semistates, is 32-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.

6 bb and 1 er all year. 3bb and that ER was against Class 4A (indiana's biggest class) #2 ranked Carroll about 5 games into the season. The coach has used 5 pitchers this season. Parkers pitches 7-10 innings a week. Coach has said he wont sacrifice his arm for the teams sake.

Draft Day!!! I'm excited to watch this today. Don't let us down Wilkens.

I'm stuck at work. Too bad, I'd really like to watch. Especially as the Cubs pick so early.

Just hang out at NSBB. We'll keep you informed. :D

Oh, don't worry, I will. I do that everyday, and draft day will certainly be no exception.
