Re: 2016 Cubs Convention Info

I think the only player on the likely 25 man that wasn't there was Coghlan. Wonder if he's upset that his unexpectedly productive year was rewarded with a spot on the bench. I remember him grumbling a little bit at the end of the season That's interesting. My internet cut out a little in the middle...

Damn, that is just an absurd amount of really, really good players. I wasn't sure who they'd pick to anchor since there are so many stars to choose from.

Re: Sherman - Cubs (and others obv) expected to be in on Alex Gordon

Are the Cardinals really going to watch Upton's price fall to where there's talk he may need to take a 1 year deal and still sit it out? I don't think he'll need to take a 1 year deal, but that is an indication things aren't going great for him this winter. The Cardinals need to do something offensi...

Re: The General TV Thread

Brendan's stepfather's constant statements that Steven was a piece of garbage who got what was coming to him and his insistence that his stepson plead guilty to a crime he didn't commit were quite odd and stuck out to me. I've also seen it posted somewhere that the stepfather was trying to sell a ....

Re: The General TV Thread

Given the alleged grisly details of her murder that was put out there by the prosecution, the lack of her blood ANYWHERE on the property (aside from on thebullet fragment), gives me the most pause about his guilt. Also, if he was as meticulous about cleaning up the crime scene (removing the blood) ...

Re: Javy Baez 2016 Prediction

I don't think lack of AB's will be a huge issue. With the way the roster is currently constructed, he'll probably essentially be platooning with Schwarber. Also with Zobrist's age/knee issues and Russell's hammy history, he'll see time in those spots as well. As far as predictions go, I lean more to...

Reading here and elsewhere, I'm surprised more people aren't convinced Rey is Luke's daughter. When she was given Luke's lightsaber and told something like "Luke was drawn to it, just like his father before him," I thought they were pretty clearly indicating her relation t...

Re: Projecting the 2016 Cubs

I'm expecting something like:

Zobrist
Schwarber
Bryant
Rizzo
Heyward
Soler
Montero
P
Russell

That splits up the strikeouts a little bit. Maddon liked Castro 5th because of his contact ability, and I'd be surprised if the best contact hitters are all batting 1-3.

Nightengale is going to get off writing about how the Cardinals "stick to their guns" and are so disciplined when it comes to free agency this spring when everyone else is writing about how awesome the Cubs are.

Re: Jason Heyward - 2016 CF?

Now I'd be really surprised if Soler gets dealt, even if we sign Heyward. I doubt Theo wants to move him for anything less than a Salazar type talent, and after the haul the Braves just got, teams are going to want a lot more than Soler for their stud pitchers.

It is astounding that multiple MLB teams have gone through the interviewing process and have decided Dusty Baker was the best option at that particular time to become their manager. Just bonkers.

Re: Jason Heyward - 2016 CF?

But because I don't know that, and because everyone here loves Heyward, I want him to sign quite a bit even though I'm still not totally sold. Yeah I do have some fears about him reverting back to his .735 OPS self while playing average defense in CF, so I preferred just re-signing Fowler when the ...

Ugh, #21. There was a big deal made about Lester needing to ask for permission to wear 34, yet guys like Joe Mather and Lake get to wear 21 like it's no biggy.

Re: Jason Heyward - 2016 CF?

If the 7/161 offer to Price was true, throw a couple of years on to that and I think you're in the ballpark for Heyward. I still think something relatively cheap (AAV-wise) like 9/207 or 10/230 (with an opt out) will get it done. Granted general managers don't think the same way as on-field managers...

Pretty sure he's never been good in CF or at least the plus defender there that he is in LF/RF.

Just seems weird he'd go from being Heyward to Jim Edmonds circa 2008 in just a couple of years, even with the position change.

Re: Starlin Traded to Yankees for Adam Warren & Brendan Ryan

I don't doubt we're a better team now, but I'm pretty sad about this. Starlin was the only thing worth watching for what seemed like a long time until Rizzo came here. I thought he figured everything out during the 2014 season was going to turn into what we had all hoped for. Sigh. As David said, at...

Re: Rays/Cubs Talking Baez Trade Per Tampa Beat Writer

Cobb only has two more years of control and won't be ready for the start of the season (plus the potential for the first-year-after-TJ-struggles). I don't love Baez, but that's a deal you can't make.

Re: Cubs Sign John Lackey - 2 years $32-34M per Rosenthal

Meh, I hate Lackey, but he's still a good pitcher I guess. Though I am expecting something boring in CF now. Hard to backload too much on a 2 year deal, unless they're going to defer payments. Wood and Lackey alone will probably make over $20 million next season and considering what all of the write...
