Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

Baez is very valuable to the Cubs on the bench since he plays plus defense at multiple positions and has offensive upside plus huge power. Basically if anyone gets hurt in the normal starting roster he's going to be playing FT. You'd need a veteran to replace that spot on the roster if you trade him.

Re: Jason Heyward - 2016 CF?

This is typically the point where someone who knows Heyward's parents or saw him in a coffee shop chimes in and says he's going to the Cubs.

Re: Zobrist?

And I realize this sounds stupid, because I'm basically complaining about a player being too good. But my gripe is more based on the fact the Cubs paid more money to get 10 years older and possibly only marginally better (depending on Castro and Baez's performance), when they have other needs. Comp...

Re: Shelby Miller/Javy deal close? Nothing to see here

Here's the thibg; these kinds of back and forth, open closed trade talks have no doubt been going on since there have been GM meetings and winter Meetings. But what there hasn't always been is Twitter where every would be journalist can instantly share everything they happen to hear from a guy who ...

Re: Cubs Sign John Lackey - 2 years $32M per Rosenthal

I like it. Better value than some of the other second-tier starters and actually less risk than handing out a 5-6 year deal to a younger guy. He's consistently been good (was great last year) and eats innings. Veteran pitcher with playoff experience, etc. I don't care about the draft pick since that...

Re: 2015/16 offseason

It seems like a lot of Schwarbs issues in the field are judgement mistakes. Get someone in to teach him how to read a fly ball, stay in front of line drives and grounders and you may end up with an average defender with Babe Ruth's bat Schwarber was solid/serviceable defensively until the Mets seri...

Re: Upcoming 2016 FAs Watch Thread w/ speculative nonsense

Here was the top 4 in 2013 Red Sox starting lineup in Game 1 of the WS Jacoby Ellsbury CF - 14.5% Shane Victorino RF - 14.1% Dustin Pedroia 2B - 10.4% David Ortiz DH - 14.7% I should probably clarify that I'm not saying you can't win the WS with some high K% rate guys in the lineup, but we're probab...

Re: Upcoming 2016 FAs Watch Thread w/ speculative nonsense

A "vet" who plays multiple positions and doesn't strike out is not a need. It may not even be a "thing". It's a luxury. The Cubs did pretty well without a vet like that this year. They'll do pretty well without one next year if there's some development and very little dropoff. A...

Re: Upcoming 2016 FAs Watch Thread w/ speculative nonsense

Obviously we need starting pitching and at least one needs to be a TOR guy. That could either be in the off-season or a deadline deal. I guess the good news here is our Espstein/Hoyer-drafted arms are starting to get closer, so by 2017 we should have some depth in the upper minors without having to ...

That logically makes no sense considering the other baseball rules (i.e. if strike 3 is a wild pitch, you have to throw to first).
