Re: The Pitchers we can trade for....

From MLBTR: The Cubs have remained in “constant contact” with the Rays, reports Jim Bowden of ESPN.com (audio link). It’s previously been suggested that Chicago could have interest in Alex Cobb, but Bowden hints that Jake Odorizzi could make a nice fit for Chicago in a deal. The hang-up, though, is ...

Re: The Pitchers we can trade for....

I know I'm wrong, but I can't help getting the feeling that Fowler is a guy for the Cubs like Zobrist was. Working behind the scenes to sign him, but having to complete a trade of Soler to Tampa Bay first. Hopefully your wrong and it's Coghlan + prospects to the Rays for McGee and we will have a 4-...

Re: Ricketts discusses extension for Theo, how much is he worth in your opinion?

I think Theo's ego is big enough that he will want to be in the same ranges as the highest paid executives in sports. He can go anywhere. Edit: if I were him I'd ask for an ownership stake. Theo's ego is big enough that he won't want to leave a team primed for a long run of success. As for ownershi...

Re: Ricketts discusses extension for Theo, how much is he worth in your opinion?

I have seen a few articles now positioning the Cubs FO among the top 3 in all of MLB. With this in mind, the article states that the Dodgers are paying Friedman 9M per year. Is Theo easily worth 10-11M or more in your mind? I think so with the way revenues are exploding. I think he could easily ask...

Re: Today's wish list...

Ruggiano isn't a CF any more than Zobrist or Baez are. Stubbs I could see a fit for, but the way he's trended with the bat since leaving Cincy is pretty worrisome, especially since he isn't a dynamite defender himself. I didn't mean that he could play CF as a regular, but he could play the position...

Re: Today's wish list...

Just saying....Stubbs can play all three OF spots, has an .804 career OPS against LHP, put up a .239 IsoSLG against RHs last year, a .944 OPS against LHP in 2014...He's a great fit for this bench roster and will cost much less than a Jackson. I think we missed out on Ruggiano as a cheap 4th OF. He ...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

What some people were pointing out is that specifically the 107 year thing is ultimately irrelevant to them; at some point it just becomes "you haven't won a WS in a really long time" or "they haven't won one while I've been alive." I was born in 1979, and 1908 might as well be ...

Re: Javy Baez 2016 Prediction

I don't see sporadic playing time. He'!l get into most every game as a PH/defensive replacement that he isn't already starting in. And he'll start a ton too. With the versatility we've got, he'll be starting plenty while Soler/Schwarber/Zobrist/Russell get days off. Not to mention, he becomes a ful...

Re: Javy Baez 2016 Prediction

With Kiermaier in CF, the Rays might be willing to part with Desmond Jennings. Jennings and Odorizzi for Soler + a bunch of prospects.

I'd love to see that, but it ain't happening. Baez + Soler + probably 5 more top prospects might start the conversation.

Re: Levine- Theo Epstein putting Stock in Soler

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/12/22/levine-is-dexter-fowler-still-a-fit-for-the-cubs/ I think finding a CF (FA or trade) is still very much a possibility. Heyward will be very good in CF, but he's amazing in RF. I wonder if a deal could be expanded with the Rays to get a pitcher (Odorizzi ?) and...

Good God, I think it [expletive] kills him that we're good now. The next thing remotely positive coming out of his mouth will be the first. I don't know what your problem is. It was fun watching this year's team and I'm looking forward to the next few when hopefully we can win a WS. If I'm not mist...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

Nobody besides the Cubs is winning the division any time soon. Certainly not in this decade. Hopefully winning the division is not the goal. Right, because they should adopt that proven formula for winning it all once you make the playoffs. Winning the division (and thus making the playoffs) is gre...

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/12/19/levine-theo-epstein-putting-stock-in-jorge-solers-future/ As for Jorge’s defense we have challenged him to get a little bit leaner and better. Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

Andrew Cashner seems like a good buy low opportunity. The stuff is clearly there. His durability last season was fine. And with this being his walk year Cashner has all the incentive in the world to take a big step forward in his career. I'd be glad to give up Almora or McKinney on the hope Cashner...

From MLBTR: Rangers Nearing Deal With Justin Ruggiano

I was hoping we could sign him as a 4th OF. He has played all 3 OF positions, kills LHP, and could have added power off the bench.

Re: Todd Frazier to White Sox in three team deal

That's what I thought about last season's moves, but I like what they've done this offseason. Lawrie and Frazier are neither overly expensive nor are they both going to immediately decline due to age each year in Chicago(unlike the LaRoche/Shark moves). Frazier isn't a *long* term piece, but neithe...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

Heyward was asked a leading question about how he sounds like he sees himself here for the long haul, not just 3 or 4 years. He answered, paraphrasing, that that's definitely true and the opt outs are just things his agent put in for his protection and to keep his options open. Basically said what ...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

I'm curious to see if Baez will be put in Center Field and Heyward kept in right. Jason Heyward's proven elite corner range should take some of the pressure off Baez's Outfield transition. And from various reports it seems as though Soler has generated more trade interest than Baez. So Soler could ...

Re: Baez to CF

He'll also get some starts in CF with Heyward being not exactly a stud against the lefties. We saw how much Joe loves to [expletive] around with the lineup. A guy who can play 6 positions (if he can play CF, I'm assuming he can play any OF position as well as 2b, 3b, SS) and hit monster bombs will ...
