Re: Regular Season and Playoff Schedule Thoughts

Sure, you can come up with some scenarios where some teams would be disincentived to tank, but I don't think that's the net result of the proposal. Do you think this Cubs team would have been dissuaded by a one-year delay in the results of their multi-year tank? And teams like the White Sox or Padre...

Re: Regular Season and Playoff Schedule Thoughts

It's really a terrific idea. Makes the long regular season of paramount importance, reduces incentive to be bad(or even worse than you could be), still offers a title(complete w/ randomness and entertainment value) of a playoff, and does so without the normal impractical suggestions that would be n...

Re: Regular Season and Playoff Schedule Thoughts

Oh god that's awful. All it takes is one dominant team and suddenly the championship is decided two months in advance and 20 or so teams have nothing to play for. The author thinks it discourages tanking, but it really makes it even more desirable. You need to be one of the top handful of teams to h...

Re: Does anyone remember when the Cubs accidentally leaked a signing on their website?

This just occurred to me and I'm curious as to whether anyone else remembers anything about this. I think it was Benito Santiago in 1999...he briefly got a player profile or something like that before the signing was announced. EDIT - I will gladly delete this stupid thread as soon as ONE person co...

Not traded at all. Plays himself back to Iowa by June, dealt for minimal return in the offseason.

Re: Potpourri Thread

So clearly I know nothing about Uber; do you negotiate the rate or the total or something? In Chicago I was content to just fall into a taxi because they were everywhere and rarely would it cost me more than $15 at the most to get home, tip included. How would the Uber be different? It's a set rate...

How they're not salvageable; trying to fix them or nitpick is just completely redundant when everything fails.

I thought they could have been improved significantly by compressing 1 and 2 into one movie, and stretching three out to two.

Re: Star Wars Thread

The original trilogy had a cerebral element that this movie lacked. Oh god no. They are insipid if you approach them as intellectual pieces. They work fine as cultural touchstones and are fun special effects summer movies if you see them when they come out, but if you take out those two elements th...

Re: 2016 Cubs Farm and Prospect Musings

I know this is your pet peeve, but come on. Every report I've ever seen on Almora's defense from draft day to now has characterized him as a terrific defender. If you want to say they're just wrong then okay, but even on the curve of subjective evaluations Almora is still considered a very good def...

Re: 2016 Cubs Farm and Prospect Musings

re: Almora's defense, besides the fact that there's all this fuzziness between reports and how a guy shows up (though lately that's been in the Cubs' favor as often as not), I think sometimes fans misinterpret what is said. Up-the-middle positions at the MLB level have very high defensive standards....

Mostly MLB, but his power was noticeably down overall. He hit 14 HRs across 393 PAs, or roughly 21 per 600 PAs last year. That's down from 29 per 600 the year before.

Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

I feel like the idea that Baez might be awful is just an afterthought, which is weird. He was awful in 2014, and he would have been awful in 2015 if not for a .412 BABIP. Below-replacement awful. It isn't an afterthought at all. You're right that his line was salvaged by the babip. However, there i...
