Re: Todd Frazier to White Sox in three team deal

Votto deserves another team to play for Careful, the Cardinals might be listening. Votto is already 32 and still owed 199 mil over the next 8 years. He was also worth over 7 wins last year. If you think Steamer underrates his hitting ability(likely, since he's a career .311 hitter that hit .314 las...

Re: Todd Frazier to White Sox in three team deal

Starting to wonder if LA is trying to amass enough chess pieces to make a run at Fernandez. They certainly have a few intriguing pitching prospects They now have 6 pitchers who will be MLB ready in 2016 but no rotation spots for them. Urias,De Leon,Cotton,Anderson,Lee and Montas. That is an enormou...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

What would we be saying if the Cardinals projected to a bajillion wins, we were having a bad offseason but still projected to be pretty good and had a long history of success? There's definitely a lot of dissonance, but it's understandable. They've been good for years without much external help. Th...

If he opts out, the signing bonus is no longer deferred. So 3/78 or 4/98 if he opts out.

Heyman finally got the contract details. In short, big signing bonus is deferred, the 2nd opt out is conditional, and he gets a NTC. https://twitter.com/jonheymancbs/status/676875118258331648 https://twitter.com/jonheymancbs/status/676875547532787712 https://twitter.com/jonheymancbs/status/676876004...

Re: Ownership Approval Poll - December 2015

Based on what we talked out here , they appear to be living up to their promise that new revenue gets funneled into the team. You can argue about the baseline that they're working from I suppose, but if they're going to run a 150 million dollar payroll this year that's 1) certainly competitive and 2...

Re: Cardinals Not Pursuing Major Position FA?

The Cardinals are in a weird spot. They have position players who project to be average at every position(there isn't a hole like CF was for the Cubs until last week), but it's mostly divided into players who are in a decline phase(Molina, Peralta, Holliday) or those who haven't played enough to be ...

I have not done this, but one thing I've heard of people doing is asking people to buy you something that is very important to *them*, e.g. a book/movie that is their favorite or very meaningful to them. This can backfire if Uncle Joe gets you Donald Trump's biography or something, but worth a thoug...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

The funniest thing to me about the people who critique this deal because so much of his value comes from these fancy newfangled sabermetrics (particularly fielding) when, if he were actually being paid what those sabermetrics say he's worth, he'd be getting like $40-50M a year. People are [expletiv...

Re: Projecting the 2016 Cubs

That is Steamer, not ZiPS. ZiPS hasn't been released for all teams yet, and when it does I believe Fangraphs' depth charts use a Steamer/ZiPS mix (approx. 50/50).

Re: The class of 2018

Let's see how many of them sign extensions over the next 2 years. Or just see their stars dim. Counting on any pitcher to still be a star in 3 years is a gamble, Donaldson and Jones will be 33, McCutchen will be 32, Pollock 31. It certainly looks like it'll be a very good class, but most classes lo...

Re: Today's wish list...

It should be noted that Heyward only gets to opt out if he plays a certain number of games. If he gets hurt, he does not get to opt out. The distinction isn't likely to be all that meaningful though, if Heyward misses a chunk of time with injury he's even less likely to want to opt out. The exact d...

By 2015 WAR, we just took StL's best hitter and best pitcher. And 2 of their 3 best players overall. ha By fWAR the Cubs now have 3 of the top 20 Hitters (Bryant - 6.5, Heyward - 6.0, Rizzo - 5.5) and 4 of the top 30 starting pitchers (Arrieta - 7.3, Lester 5.0, Lackey - 3.6, and Hendricks - 3.4) F...

Re: Lucroy?

Lucroy scares me. He had injury problems and even though he was playing again after them he looked either still hurt or broken entirely. And the Brewers are not going to sell low to get rid of him, in all likelihood. He's also not a longer term solution than Montero because he has the same team cont...
