Former Penn State University President Graham Spanier will be charged with perjury and obstruction offenses for his alleged role in covering up the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, NBC News reported on Thursday.

Prosecutors have also prepared new charges against two other former officials, Athletic Director Tim Curley and Vice President Gary Schultz, who have already been indicted in the Sandusky case, NBC reporter Michael Isikoff said on its "Today" program.

Holy crap, look at the comments section! This prized gem is from William:

so we call the police every time a 6'3" 250 lb "crazy ass" tries to ask questions? doesn't seem like a good use of tax dollars.

I suppose this would seem unusual if someone were to intentionally completely ignore the context.

out to "get you" how? if he's physically threatening or repeatedly harassing (in person) the guy, then yes the police should be involved. otherwise, seems pretty frivolous, regardless of whether you think his opinion on the paterno/psu punishment is stupid.

The NCAA says police were called when Ziegler refused to stop filming Emmert when he and all attendees were told filming wasn't allowed and he was told again when he pulled out his phone to tape the Q&A. Ziegler may have spun it a bit to promote himself.

yes, i see (after some googling) that ziegler says he was told in advance that cameras would be allowed and that multiple other people had cameras. and that he wasn't told to turn off the camera until after a question was asked about paterno.

anyway, seems like a dumb reason to call the cops, but whatever. franco harris is dumb and emmert is a stooge, nothing to see here.

Do any of you lawyer types think this has any legs?

Mark Emmert, president of the NCAA has put out a statement regarding the investigation into the Miami Hurricanes that the NCAA has " found a very severe case of improper conduct" committed by NCAA investigators during their investigation of the Miami Hurricane football program.

The "severe case of improper conduct", according to NCAA president Mark Emmert, was that the NCAA "improperly obtained information through a bankruptcy proceeding that did not involve the NCAA".

This admission and clear hypocrisy by Mark Emmert, all but assures that the law suit filed by the state of Pennsylvania against the NCAA seeking to dismiss the sanctions the NCAA imposed on Penn State in the wake of the criminal activity of Jerry Sandusky will almost certainly succeed.

It is ironic that Emmert considers information obtained through a proceeding that did not involve the NCAA "a severe case of improper conduct" by its investigators and yet every sanction against Penn State was leveled as a result of the corrupt Freeh Report, a proceeding, to quote Emmert, " that did not involve the NCAA".

What's so severe about obtaining information from a bankruptcy proceeding, aren't they public information?

If you google his quote it's a blog by some irate PSU person. He ends the article by talking about how the Paterno family and PSU alums are going to 'ring the cash registers' suing the pants off the NCAA and the Penn State Board of Trustees.

teh blog entry is dumb overall.

just asking if Emerett admitting that information acquired outside of an official NCAA investigation is inadmissible, then how does he justify the Freeh report?

I'm not pretending it will amount to a hill of beans

IANAL, but I'm confused as to why NCAA investigators doing the wrong thing with Nevin Shapiro means that PSU's bogus lawsuit is now a surefire winner.

This has nothing to do with PSU/Sandusky, but is further reinforcement that the NCAA is run by cretins
