Over the last 30 days, the #Orioles have both the highest team OPS (.793) as well as the highest team ERA (5.17)

Not sure on the velocity but he stunk in August and September last year also as the A's collapsed. He had a 6.05 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP those two months.
In Theo we trust.

Joe wanted him on the team and Theo didn't think he should be?

I have to think that's what it amounted to.

I think Maddon wanted to use him as a super sub type, getting him as many as 300-400 PAs, but Epstein preferred keeping the option, service time, position, and getting him more reps on offense.

Nick Vlahos is gonna parlay this into some kind of [expletive] book deal or something.

The Theo stuff isn't even so bad, except for the horrible timing of it. It's the "Don't celebrate this yet! I've seen them blow it a million times! We are the Cubs! And if we lose... here's why!" mindset. I mean, wow, this man is paid to write things?

Yeah it'd be better off if people just ignored him. He's a townie sportswriter, he has no real audience, no sway. No different than a hundred other people who you can find being Wrong On The Internet about a given topic.

IIRC, he's not even a sportswriter. He covers local government or something.

For a job that's equal. He seemed like a dead man walking and all. But damn, to leave this for THAT? Go be with your "baseball men" Tim. Thanks for Javy.
Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

Theo was on with Goff and Spiegel. Standard Theo interview. He did say something to the effect of "ideally you have a team good enough to where you don't need to be the team being talked about in November and December, but we anticipate a pretty dramatic offseason"

Read this [expletive]. It's awesome.

I remember Theo Epstein wandering through the lobby at the 2012 general managers’ meetings in Indian Wells, Calif., looking uncomfortable, muttering something to the effect of, “I’m irrelevant.”

And I remember thinking, and maybe even replying, “Not for long.”

This was coming. We all knew it was coming. The Cubs were far from a quick fix, losing 91, 101, 96 and 89 games in their first four seasons under Epstein as president of baseball operations and Jed Hoyer as GM. But the team reached the National League Championship Series last season, a year ahead of schedule. And now, goodness, Epstein is unleashing the monster.

I don't think even Kyle would go so far as to pin 2011 on Theo.

Instead of being talked about in November and December, we are now going to be the team everyone talks about from January until December.
