Kris Bryant Appreciation

Postby TomtheBombadil » Mon Oct 26, 2015 10:42 am

Saw this quote on FanGraphs:

“The guy doesn’t have many weaknesses,” Epstein said the day after his team was eliminated in the NLCS. “But (the Mets) attacked him a lot with right-on-right changeups, and the numbers show that maybe he hasn’t adjusted to that pitch yet. They got him out a few times with it. He made a great adjustment in his last at bat of the 2015 season. He took a right-on-right changeup and hit it 410 feet for a home run.”

He's just a [expletive] monster.

Now somebody make me feel better about Bryant's outrageous home/road splits.

Perfect Jake will pitch a perfect game next year.

The way I look at it, it's not like Wrigley is late 90s/early 2000s Coors, so I wouldn't worry about it yet. I think he was hitting much better at home even early in the season when the wind was blowing in every game, so it's not as if he depended solely on friendly wind. I'll chalk some of it up to randomness and some of it to players normally hitting better at home.

His OPS was still serviceable, so was it mostly a power differential situation? His away BABIP was still ridiculously high, but that's likely just going to be the case no matter what, so pffffffffffffft.

His home away splits last season were better on the road. Too early to tell if that means anything at all

He hit .246 against lefties. .254 against them at home, .239 on the road.

I hope that helps somehow.

KB was so much better defensively and with base running than I could have ever imagined.
Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

It's a shame they didn't call him up for Opening Day. The season wouldn't have been such a failure

I expected both. He got the Glaus comp for a reason, thought the better question was how long he could play 3B rather than the ability to handle the position.

What gets me is that he put up a .246/.345/.452 line with a >33% K rate against LHP. What is that? The best way to beat Bryant was soft, low, and in last year, so maybe lefties were better able to exploit it?

It is pretty amazing that Pederson stunk so much in the second half that all he got was 1 third place vote.

Caught a little of his interview on the score talking about the appeal to MLB on service time, he basically admitted he's doing it for future players/to make a change to the system. FWIW.
