Hoping Snydergaard's supposed sore arm causes him to have poor control and/or limits his pitch count. Probably won't matter because God-mode is pitching.

Like the Cards, can't blame the Mets and their fans for reveling in their final victory of 2015. They had a good run and should be proud. Cubs roll again and say goodbye to Citi for the year.

Considering Arrieta allowed four runs in his last start and we have a garbage fourth starter there seems to be a whole bunch of possibly misguided optimism about winning the next four games.

Plus Maddon hasn't been good at all, the entire playoffs, of realizing the proper time to pull the starting pitchers. How many times this postseason has a starter been pulled after allowing an additional run or two towards a deficit.

Also when you're facing an ace pitcher, have a runner on second base with no one out and a hitter at the plate who has flat out said he feels uncomfortable hitting in the cold, you tell that hitter to bunt.

You alter your strategy as a manager based on the conditions. And I'd say having an ace on the mound in freezing weather, with a bad cold weather hitter, calls for different strategy than hitting at Wrigley in excellent weather.

Tonight and precisely one other time. Game 1 vs. St. Louis, when Lester gave up a home run to go from 0-1 to 0-2, then was pulled after walking the next batter.

Both with Lester, who will get more starts than any of our pitchers. Not knowing the proper time to pull your ace is an issue. Of course many managers struggle with riding a veteran dominant starter too long. Maddon is just another example.

And I still hate the decision to let Hammel hit in game four. Maddon is very lucky Lackey didn't stick with his four seam fastball in that at bat. Maddon knew he would have a quick hook with Hammel. Combine that with having multiple pitchers in your pen who are good at eating innings should have meant taking out Hammel when presented with a great RBI opportunity.

See, your second paragraph implies that you understand that the result doesn't prove the thought process was flawed, but your first point depends on the idea that Lester giving up a run in his last inning is proof that he should have been pulled earlier.

Also, I'm going to be in NYC during Games 3-5 and sure as [expletive] will be wearing Cubs gear when I'm there (being a tourist before a family wedding in Poughkeepsie). So let's do this, Jake and OMC.

All I know is Arrieta has a golden arm, Schwarber always comes up clutch in the playoffs, and we will hit dongs tonight.

I'm going to approach this game the way I do all Cubs games -- hopeful, but cautious. I suppose I understand all the over-the-top optimism, but we are only setting ourselves up for a huge disappointment if we lose.

Having said that, I am nervous about tonight's game, but more positive than I was last night. After the first time through our line-up, we did start hitting the ball better, the Mets got a few lucky breaks, and we have God going on the mound for us.

I don't like to say "must-win" so early in a series, but I like our chances if we win tonight. I don't like them if we lose.

Go Cubs!

It's almost like the Cubs didn't lose Game 1 on the road a week ago. The Cubs (Lester) gave up runs on a bloop after 2 seeing eye grounders, when he should have been out of the inning; on a 3-1 pitch after a missed strike call put him in the hole in the AB, and when his catcher didn't move up to catch a ball. Bloopers happen, but get rid of the defensive lapses and the Cubs have a good chance to win that game last night.

I think the cold psyched a couple guys out last night (looking at you Soler, and all guys who came in off the bench). And I think the fact that Arrieta gave up 4 runs last time out is a good thing for this game. When the Cubs were up 4-0 in Pittsburgh and he had the bases loaded, I said to myself "he given up 4 runs in the last 2 1/2 months, he's not going to give up 4 in an inning". So, now I'm saying, he allowed 4 runs in a game for the first time in 2 1/2 months, he isn't going to do that 2 times in a row. No wind blowing out, cold weather, not a great contact lineup....Arrieta has got this under control.

Oh and Harvey is toast the next time we see him.
