*emphasis on firings

Also, interim manager Pat Murphy was not retained by the Padres, so count them among the teams looking for a new manager.

Early talk has them looking at former Cubs great Phil Nevin.

Looks like Cal Ripken Jr may end up the Nats next manager.

what was even the point of keeping Matt Williams after like, August, when the team was completely lost. I never get that when its completely obvious a guy is gonna get fired, but they let him play out the string anyway

It made zero sense, the only thing I can think of is since they fired the entire staff they had nobody they wanted to take over on the interim basis and just decided to let the thing crash and burn. I also think Rizzo clearly thought higher of Williams than literally anyone else and probably was hoping they could cobble together a non-dumpster fire finish so he could bring him back.

DiCaro asked him and he clarified he meant coaches only and Counsell is staying.

So what would it take for us to get Harper after he asks to be traded away from that [expletive]?

Vogelbach, McKinney, and Edwards? /s

This inspired me to look up a list of youngest players in the majors, and while it took more work than anticipated, here's a short list of players older than Bryce Harper:

Mookie Betts
Xander Bogaerts
Blake Swihart
Joc Pederson
Gregory Polanco
Maikel Franco
Manny Machado
Kris Bryant
Jorge Soler

Baez is a little over a month younger than Harper
Schwarber about 6 months younger

Good grief is it insane to think of how good Harper is even though he is so young

Please hire him before he can do any more TBS studio work.

I'd kind of like to see him have to watch the Cubs win the NLCS from the studio.

Not to mention he'd almost certainly still be on the telecast. They have current players all over the place. Archer was on ESPN for the AL WC game, Pierzynski was doing color for FS1...

Damn it, I like the Nationals, but my god are they just awful when it comes to choosing managerial talent.
