Punch Mother Nature in the mouth thread

Postby Tarver » Sat Apr 23, 2011 6:07 am

The damage here is incredible. Lambert airport is shut down until at least monday, some neighborhoods surrounding it are leveled.

But 10K+ still showed up at 11pm to boo Brandon Phillips.

Yeah, I've been watching the footage on CNN this morning.

I thought an entire week of sleet-snow and 40's in Wisconsin was bad enough. The situation in St. Louis is a disaster.

I'm not sure that airport can open on Monday. There's a lot of damage there.

I managed to survive. Not much damage around where I live, but I didn't get a full grasp on the damage in the area until this morning. I have a friend who was supposed to fly out this morning for a family funeral and I feel awful for him. This is the second time in the last week that we have had severe weather like this, hopefully it stops soon.

Nearest option would be to drive to KC, I guess?

Yeah, that's terrible.

This last week has just been ridiculous. The other night we were in our basement for almost 2 hours because of the storms. A tornado touched down just west of us, but did little damage. Glad you other St. Louis people survived!

Apparently no serious injuries either.

Between the devastating North Carolina tornadoes last Saturday (some of which were near where I live, but none of which hit me) and this one (which apparently missed Florissant, where my brother lives) I've been breathing huge sighs of relief over the past week.

I was at the Hill last night for dinner with some friends and we just waited for hours as an amazing light show went on around us. Thank god we don't leave in/near North St. Louis (for a myriad of reasons), but our house just got put on the market... and imagine trying to sell it with a [expletive] ton of damage.
The nice thing about conventional wisdom is that it's almost always wrong.

St. Louis airport is back up & running, which is a really solid job by all those people.

The footage of the terminal I saw this morning was pretty incredible.

It was like a spaceship hull breach, like in the movies. Crazy stuff.

Yeah I think they are back close to 100% service today. Which is amazing.

My office has a ton of people flying out today -- other than a few changed gates, everything appears to be on schedule. But I'm still glad I don't have to fly out until Wednesday.

Wind and rain suck. Crazy overnight winds ripped a piece of flashing off the side of my house. I finally got a window of time to mow my lawn today, and what is normally a 45 minute job is going to take about 4 hours after all the raking/bagging of long, wet grass clippings. Record setting rainfall in April (with more to come).

Where exactly is nature's taint? Is it the area between Washington DC and New Jersey?

Biitner's been stuck there much longer.

Obviously Jersey would be the butthole in that scenario, but I don't see DC being the balls. I think the taint is in OH, between Cincy and Cleveland.
