2015 Holiday Gift Wish List

Postby snoodmonger » Sun Dec 13, 2015 2:16 pm

My family members are huge gift givers, and every year I find it increasingly difficult to come up with things to ask for. (Generally, I just buy the stuff I want that I can afford at this point in my life.) So I figured I'd see what you folks are asking for, hoping it would inspire me. So what's on your wish list?

I'd link an image of what that means to me, but I'd have to ban myself.

Isn't that what DaBum called his mini gifts for his weird Holiday? Maybe I'm wrong

I'm having the same problem with my family. Curious to see what people are doing this year.

I'm a fan of gifts that make your life easier. Debating getting something like a Roomba.

I wouldn't mind one of those, but they're too expensive to ask for. That's my conundrum. Stuff that's reasonably priced that I want I've already bought.

Ask for gift cards to be used for a specific gift that's too expensive for any one person to buy. I think that's reasonable when there's a specific item in mind.
I like beer.

I would buy one for myself or someone else but could never ask for it as a gift.

I have not done this, but one thing I've heard of people doing is asking people to buy you something that is very important to *them*, e.g. a book/movie that is their favorite or very meaningful to them. This can backfire if Uncle Joe gets you Donald Trump's biography or something, but worth a thought.

The other thing that you could do is say that you don't want anything that you need to permanently store, so the present should be something you can eat, spend/redeem, etc. This is the route I often end up going when buying for my wife, experiences are more memorable than things IMO, so tickets to a show or a special food-related something can end up being more meaningful than some trinket or gadget.

^That's the way I approach gift-giving with most of my family these days. It's always been a huge gift-giving family, but at this point, my dad needs more crap like a hole in the head. So it's gift packages to events, like a symphony or something. And wines/beers they can't get where they live.

As for answering "what do you want for Christmas," it's a struggle. Usually I put a lot of video games on the list, because they're expensive and I won't buy them myself.
Just an average guy with exceptional hair. No more, no less.

One of the gifts I give to my wife and daughter every x-mas is gift certificates to a restaurant like Panera bread as a stocking stuffer, like $100 worth of $10 cards. They have "lunch dates" in the summer when the go grocery shopping, so they use one at a time. I've done Panera bread two years in a row now, this year I need to mix it up a bit

I've been trying to think of some gifts for my son. He's a senior in HS and I thought about getting some stuff that he'll need next year when he goes away to college but can't think of anything good. Maybe that stuff is better as a graduation present but I was trying to remember back to when I went away to college and the only thing I can think of is a mini fridge.

A fake ID would be really useful for him
