At the risk of ridicule, anyone else here a fitbit user? Would anyone be interested if I formed a NSBB group?

I get the concept, but how useful do you find it in tracking activity etc?

My wife has one that she was given as a gift, and she wears it every day, but I don't know that she ever really benefits in any way from having it, other than maybe motivation to hit a certain step amount for the day.

There is something in psychology called the "Hawthorne Effect". Basically, people improve their behavior if they know they're being watched. Now, the effect fades over time. But that's where having other people doing it with you kicks in. I'm a competitive cur, so having friends that are also doing it drives me to want to "win" daily/weekly challenges and such.

I use the Lose It app on my phone and can tell you that makes me more aware of my activity level and what I ingest, at the very least. It's worked for me. My gf and I both use it and it notifies us when one of us reaches goals. It's definitely motivation.

I have one and use it daily. It's interesting to see how how many more steps I get on the weekend rather than the week sitting at a desk.

I got one on Black Friday. I really question the accuracy of the calories burned it shows but if for nothing else it makes me mindful of the need to move more every day so it was worth the money IMO.

it does a bit more than that though.

My wife got one that tells you how you slept, so you can be reminded in the morning that you woke up 5 times from the freaking kids.

It's really just a motivation thing.

yeah, i don't think the difference between a gut and a six pack is taking an extra 1,100 steps each day or whatever, but i still like the one i got for free (probably wouldn't buy one). reminds me to keep track of my water, and i like the sleep monitor thing, though i question its accuracy.

The calories burned is off for sure, as is the mileage. I'm definitely not burning 4,000 calories in a day. I'd be losing weight rapidly and potentially dying.

The distance is off because I've ran a tracked distance and it it's off and not consistent (maybe the one with GPS does better).

Even though there are mobile apps that do everything better, I do like this thing.

I like the caller ID on my wrist a lot.

38,574 steps at work Christmas Eve. It makes you feel a bit better about getting a pizza later that night. By the same token, days off my feet make me want to eat better.
