2015-16 NHL regular season

Now, with more cocaine, but less Raffi Torres:

Good, I'd much rather cocaine be in the NHL than Torres

I'm going to avoid this thread if you are going to constantly talk about how awesome Saad is :(

Context is important. If Saad is still good with whoever he'll be lining up with in Nohio it won't really matter unless the Hawks are struggling to win games.

I'm going with my same prediction as last year for the finals, Blues vs. Bolts. This year Tampa wins it.

I lived in Chicago longer than I've lived in Columbus. I like the Hawks. I have no interest in rubbing the Saad trade in anyone's face. I hope both teams are good

pfft. Blues never win in the playoffs. Hitchcock wears them out long before then.

The Penguins blue line is a mess. The Caps are expecting big things from American hero TJ Oshie not realizing that he's not actually better than Brouwer. Good luck with that. Which means that, barring their annual "8 guys getting hurt at the same time" strategy, Columbus should be in the mix which in hockey is really all you can ask for.

Man I didn't realize the Blue Jackets have started out 0-6-0. No wonder Derwood is depressed

A coaching change to shake things up seems like something that might happen.

CBJs fire their coach and hire... John Tortarella. LOL

I suppose there are worse options but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I hope Saad's enjoying being super duper rich instead of just super rich. Living in Columbus dealing with Torts. LOL.

On the plus side, Torts' system works better in the East. He'll go in and yell at guys to play better. Maybe that's what they need. He's probably a placeholder until they find somebody better.

It seems to me every hockey coach is a placeholder. It may be the most disposable head coach position in sports.

The good or even decent ones can hang around at the same job for a long time since half the league makes the playoffs. It's the same 5-6 teams that are always hiring and firing a new coach that make it seem like there's constant turn over.

Baseball Managers are a lot more disposable. In hockey, the coach has to actually develop a game plan and adapt his system to the talent available. There's not much strategy in baseball.

It took Quinneville like three years to make the top 5 longest tenured head coaches in the NHL. A handful of coaches do stick around forever, but NHL GM/owners have very quick trigger fingers with these guys. 19 guys started at their current position in 2013 or more recently.

MLB managers don't really do anything. And since very few teams make the playoffs, guys aren't fired just for missing them once, where that happens in the NHL a lot. Any quality organization that misses the playoffs has a great excuse to fire a guy.

The McDavid injury is just terrible. He was already the most exciting player in the league.

So It sounds like a minimum 8 week injury? I was looking forward to the Hawks playing him

What in the what?

The NHL All-Star Game will drop the “fantasy draft” format and switch to a 3-on-3 mini-tournament, according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, who says the league will officially announce the format later today. It could be fun! It could be really boring, just like every other iteration.

Here’s how it’ll reportedly work at the 2016 ASG in Nashville:

There will be four teams of nine skaters and two goalies, one team for each of the four divisions (Atlantic and Metropolitan in the East; Central and Pacific in the West). There will be a 20-minute mini-game – likely two 10-minute halves – featuring one division versus another in 3-on-3 action followed by another 20-minute game with the other two divisions playing each other.

The two winning teams would then meet in a third 20-minute session for the so-called “championship” game.
Overtime 3-on-3 has been great. It’s fun no matter who’s playing, and it’s especially pleasing to watch a team that’s particularly good at it.
