Starlin Traded to Yankees for Adam Warren & Brendan Ryan
Re: Starlin Traded to Yankees for Adam Warren & Brendan Ryan
Just want to say farewell and GL to Castro. He had some good years as a Cub.
We are doomed.

cerebrally, i'm pretty good with this trade. emotionally... it's complicated. he just had that "kid at heart" thing going on that made him endearing and even when he was not good, there was always a strong instinct to pull for him and hope for the best. that probably won't ever go away
i was trying to think of my favorite moment of his from this past season. there's some good ones, but i keep coming back to one that perfectly represents his insuppressible goofiness with his penchant for the dramatic; that game against pittsburg in april when he got something in his eye, froze the pitcher, made some hilarious facial gestures, stepped back in the box, and won the game with a walk-off hit. that [expletive] was so hilarious and awesome and i just don't think any player before or after could dose out that combination of emotions so naturally and effortlessly

Wasn't that actually in Pittsburgh? I remember it not being one of his walkoffs, but it was the go-ahead RBI he drove in they they ended up winning off of.
Either way, it was great.

Yah. It was in Pittsburgh. Pretty sure it was the same series he almost killed that lady but maybe not since we went there a million times early.

Starlin imitating Bryant on the throw over to Rizzo was hilarious.

The jumping uppercut after they won a game (can't remember which one it was) was pretty great

I love goofy Starlin but let's not forget The Castro Game® including his lean back monster shot pimp job and curtain call, against StL in a pennant race no less.
During a "Not For Women Only" panel discussion, former Cubs pitcher Mike Bielecki asked several players to invent a baseball catch phrase for Viagra. Theriot's ad campaign: "Viagra -- I always play hard."

It was after Jake's no-hitter.

Yep. I was at both those games. Starlin also hit a monster homer to center in the same game he had the GW hit. Good times.

I'll never forget that one game in June against the Twins when he let a ball go through his legs with two outs and the bases loaded and then that other runner scored from second while Castro had his back turned.
It just made you love him for being human.

Lets also not forget he caught the final out on a soft liner to end the Cubs first playoff win in 12 seasons in Pittsburgh. The way he causually snapped his glove closed was awesome.
I'm so happy he got to play a playoffs with the Cubs. Although we didn't know it at the time, it was a fitting bookend to his Cubs career after so many years of struggle as a team. Also he got to hit a game tying HR in game 3 which was sweet.

Dare to dream....

This was a very smart trade by the Cubs.

What kind of booze did you have stashed in your office desk today to already be this drunk with happiness?

I heard it as "vacation in St. Louis" and I felt so, so bad for him.
