Cubs Arb Guys

Postby David » Fri Jan 15, 2016 11:51 am

I thought there was a thread on this, but I couldn't find it

Brett hinted at this earlier

MLBTR had those pretty much pegged (at least, combined)

Cubs (8)

Clayton Richard (5.154) – $1.1MM
Chris Coghlan (5.148) – $3.9MM
Travis Wood (5.004) – $6.4MM
Pedro Strop (4.156) – $4.7MM
Jake Arrieta (4.145) – $10.4MM
Ryan Cook (3.086) – $1.4MM
Hector Rondon (3.000) – $3.6MM
Justin Grimm (2.170) – $1.0MM

The three most important relievers on the Cubs: Grimm, Strop and Rondon, will collectively cost them less than 10 million next year.

I can deal with that.

4.8 for Coghlan.
Additional rule: you have to have one or the other. The only exception is you have an amazing board name. davell, I'm looking at you; put up a [expletive] avatar or something if your name only sounds like somebody tried say Dave as they lapsed into a coma.

Very happy to see Coghlan back. Keep the heat on Soler to perform.

With such a large gap on Arrieta I wonder if that leads to a 2 year contract for him to buyout his arbitration years. I think they should just roll with the arbitration years but like a 2/$25 contract seems about fair for him.

There's very little reason for either side to be interested in that type of deal.

The midpoint between those offers is almost the MLBTR estimate exactly(10.4 million) so I'm a little surprised they didn't settle.
