But the budget half of the comment still applies.

Detroit was fairly lucky in hitting the "high reward" part of the equation with Verlander. Easily could have gone the other way.

Is anyone as concerned as me about not taking any pitchers so far in the draft?

someone else can do 150-200.

These are guys left from BAs top 150

27. Jack McGeary, LHP - Roxbury Latin HS (Tough sign - Stanford)
31. Chris Carpenter, RHP - Kent State (May be tough sign now)
42. Yasmani Grandal, C - Miami Springs HS (probably heading to Miami)
54. Kentrail Davis, OF - Theodore HS (Boras, likely heading to Tennessee)
56. Cole St. Clair, LHP - Rice (Heading back for sure)
62. Nick Tepesch, RHP - Blue Springs HS (Tough sign now going to Missouri)
67. Kevin Patterson, 1B/C - Oak Mountain HS (tough sign like Justin Bristow two years back, Auburn)
77. Gary Brown, OF/2B - Diamond Bar HS (tough sign, Fullerton)
79. Taylor Cole, RHP - Bishop Gorman HS (Considered signable top five rounds)
83. Matt Thompson, RHP - Santa Rosa JC (no idea)
92. Chad Jones, OF/LHP - Southern Lab HS (Top LSU Football recruit, 1 mil to sign)

103. Preston Clark, C - Texas (1 mil to sign)
107. Stephen Porlier, RHP - Oklahoma (soph, tough sign)
111. Greg Peavey, RHP - Hudson's Bay HS (Boras, wants first round money to forgoe Oregon State)
112. Tanner Robles, LHP - Cottonwood HS (Oregon State committment, may not be signable anymore)

116. Brian Dupra, RHP - Greece Athena HS (com to ND, virtually unsignable)
120. Cody Scarpetta, RHP - Guilford HS (Committed to Creighton, perhaps hes signable)
122. Christian Colon, SS/2B - Canyon HS (going to Fullerton, top 3 round money to buy out)
123. Kyle O'Campo, RHP - Poly HS (see above)
124. Chad Bettis, RHP - Monterey HS (Perhaps a tough sign now, going to Texas Tech)
125. Kevin Rhoderick, RHP - Horizon HS (Georgia sign, could be a tough sign)
126. Rob Rasmussen, LHP - Poly HS (going to UCLA)
127. Scott Alexander, LHP - Cardinals Newman HS (Signed to Pepperdine, perhaps signable)
131. Tony Watson, LHP - Nebraska (signable)

Maybe the Cubs can make some phone calls to try to free up some money and steal a falling pitcher. I like Scarpetta and Tepesch a lot. Im calling it now the Cubs will select Tyson Brummett and/or Tony Watson

im disappointed in the lack of high upside players taken in general. it was the strength of the draft and we completely avoided it. terrible

I believe that this is because the Cubs were not allowed to spend money and it will not be a sign of Wilken's drafts in the future (or maybe im just being very hopeful), what does everyone else think?

they weren't overdrafting all of the players. thomas wasnt much of one and neither was donaldson. they probably could have nabbed another guy for the same price

I'm not saying they were overdrafting but it can be hard to sign high celing guys for little money, personally if they were gonna go for a catcher with that pick i would have preferred mitch canham over donaldson

I'm definitely disappointed that Daniel Descalso from UCD got drafted by the Cardinals. I guess I'll just have to hope he gets traded.
In Theo we trust.
