Potpourri Thread

Postby Derwood » Sat Jun 28, 2008 4:25 pm

Since SoC got locked.....

So it was a colorful day in downtown Columbus today. We went down for the Pride Parade, but also in town was ComFest (think drum circles, people selling hemp pants, etc.), a Christian Home Schoolers conference, plus the Ohio Gamers Convention.

it's worse than you think. they allow women to go topless inside the fest, and let me tell you, the women who choose to do so are NOT the ones you want

Bacon on anything is extremely overrated. Bacon by itself is pretty good when cooked properly, the taste of bacon dominates other ingredients, espec. on BLTs.

I could not agree less. I much prefer bacon as an ingredient to bacon on its own.

I'm with you on this one. It's a pretty useless sandwich.

This made me laugh out loud. One of my hippie friends... well, my only hippie friend... from high school used to always get so pumped about when he'd go to shows and sell grilled cheeses. The return on investment couldn't have been that great, but he always made it out to be a huge deal. I guess it made for more free weed for him.

I don't understand all the bacon love. Every time I've ever had it, it sucked.

i swam about 10000-11000 yards in 3 practices over the last 4 days. i came out of retirement (laziness) from swimming about 3 weeks ago. oddly enough, one of my special olympics swimmers sort of got me to get back into it. he asked me about 20 times (he's [expletive], after all) during summer games if i ever swam. so i told him "yes john, i swam for 20 years." anyway, i kept saying it and i didn't like that i was talking about myself like a former swimmer. plus, i used to have a really good body from swimming, and now i'm fat.

the main hurdles are (a) finding time to get to the pool and (b) convincing myself that i'm healthy. i stopped swimming 3.5 years ago after falling on my shoulder, which caused a deep bone bruise, sprained joint and partial separation. my shoulder pops now when i rotate it, but it should be healthy for the most part. so i just have to get it into my head that i'm out of shape, i'm going to be slow for quite a while, and the soreness in my shoulders is just due to not swimming for so long.

as for the other part, i'm writing down on a calendar the days of the week that i'm going to swim, and then i plan out how much i'm going to do. even though my arms were pretty dead halfway through my swim today, i pushed through and did about 4000 yds. i'm moving into my new house in about 3 weeks and that will keep me plenty busy, but hopefully i can stick with the swimming. so far so good.

I'm really disappointed in the lack of appreciation for the greatness of bacon.

Bacon makes anything you put it on better.

Also, lemons and pickles are two of God's greatest creations. And hot women.

I got to meet Bruce Pearl today. That was pretty awesome.

I was sent to cover a reception introducing a doctor to the county and the main guest at it was Pearl. He's a very cool guy, I wasn't dissapointed in the least. He joked a little about some of his players and gave his opinion about some of the guys on the team and a couple of coaches.

It was worth having to work on a Saturday after the extremely tough week it's been at work.

Mushrooms are quite good and, I agree, mustard makes almost anything better. Plenty of mustard.
