Re: Baez impresses Baez

while i wouldn't say half a win is meaningless, it's actually a difference of .8 I'm seeing 5.1 vs 4.7. Regardless, WAR has standard margin of error - any derived statistical indicator has one. Lowest suggestion I've seen is 15% and I believe the highest I've seen suggested is 2 WAR per year. So .4...

his .350 AVG / .700 SLG with runners on is cheapened because...there are always runners on? doesn't that sorta bolster my point i dont think anything martinez does as a hitter is cheap, i just think if you hypothetically put trout in a situation where he was a table clearer for a team that always h...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

I abeee with the premise of don’t just look at WAR. But these other 3 guys are blowing him out of the water in WAR, the RISP/RBIs don’t make up for that, for me. On top of Martinez not playing defense other than ~40 games (which when he does is bad). Also, fwiw Benintendi is closer to Martinez in f...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Yeah I don't really care about any of that as a main reason to vote for a guy. As a tie breaker, sure. But there's 3 better candidates, IMO. it is the tiebreaker, and a huge one; the main candidates all have monster stats but Trout gets substantially worse the higher the leverage situation and Mart...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Red Sox have 3 players who've been given 400 PA and have produced negative offensive value; almost 4 more (195 for Hanley) have been given 200 PA Boston as an offensive behemoth is largely JD & Mookie going completely ape horsefeathers, with added, far less significant contributions from Beninte...

it mostly boils down to whether you'd rather see a walk or an extra base hit with runners on base

Re: David Bote is a Golden God and Deserves His Own Thread

I've been cowardly waiting for Bote to not kill the ball for a game to express a similar sentiment. He can have all the exit velocity he wants, I'm not going to feel one bit upset about any starts that Russell, Baez, Happ, or Zobrist get over him. They're better. Doesn't mean he's not potentially u...

Re: Baez impresses Baez

Matt Carpenter is having a more valuable season than Javier Baez , but that'd just make it even funnier to listen to the bitching if Baez wins MVP. i don't really agree here, he's mostly hit a ton of solo HR but WAR just gonna assume he's actually produced a lot of runs with his .600 SLG which isn'...

Re: RE: Re: Baez impresses Baez

I know RBIs are dumb but I still want Javy to get like 130 of them. He's really becoming Manny-esque at the plate. RBIs aren't dumb. Comparing players based on them is. I want my middle order hitters to rack up 120ish RBIs. I believe the whole "RBI's are dumb" is a mantra that's way overd...

This guy is actually good. Shockingly so. this may be a really dumbass suggestion for many reasons, BUT if we internally, love Bote and think he's some safe bet to be 3+ WAR, Corey Koskie redux, what does Billy Eppler say if you offer him up Bryant, Happ/Almora, ++ for Trout? how much does he try t...

Re: Will Javy Baez win NL MVP?

i mean, i don't know if we can (ever?) expect this to keep up but the narrative will certainly be in his favor; Bryzzo's been mostly useless and the whole rotation has been relative mediocrity yet we stand atop the Central - whom to credit? also i think Freeman's a non-factor in the voting; Eddie Mu...

Re: Baez impresses Baez

It's August 1st and he's a legit MVP contender right now, this is insane. a league MVP with the worst qualified walk rate would be really funny it also goes a little unnoticed, but having Baez available to play 20% of your SS innings like he has, instead of needing to roster Mike Freeman/Tyler Sala...

Re: Non-prospect that had the best MLB career?

in the last calendar year Jose Ramirez has 99 XBH and 72 K, pushing 10 WAR so i'll say him

similarly, in that span JD Martinez has 56 HR & 142 RBI
