Re: The Cardinals

Yeah Taking three minutes to get the call right is better than 10 minutes of the manager losing his horsefeathers when the umps blow an obvious call.

Agent to assistant: “We just signed Giolito. Follow our normal procedure and scrub his social feeds.”
Assistant to agent: “Got it.”

20 minutes later...

Assistant to agent: “I can’t scrub it, sir. It’s. Just. Too. Adorable.”

Re: Josh Hader

MLB is making him take sensitivity training per ESPN. Probably the only thing they can do at this point. Hader’s said all the right things since this hit the news. If he’s smart or has smart people around him, he’ll do the sensitivity training with a smile on his face, come out saying that he learne...

Re: Josh Hader

brewerfan.net is a doozy. They aren't exactly defending the words but are spending more time criticizing the people who exposed the tweets than Hader for making them. One guy is blaming rap music for putting those words in their songs and why its unfair that white people cant quote it without being...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

fun fact: Manny Machado has never had a season as valuable as Seager's rookie year. fWAR. By bWAR, Machado has three seasons better than Seager’s rookie season. This year, however, Machado’s not on pace for a better season than Seager’s rookie season primarily due to how poorly his defense grades o...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

He’s basically a Corey Seager replacement. Puts them where they would have been had Seager’s arm not fallen off. Curious to see the price and curious to see if the Dodgers pursue Manny in free agency next year. With a healthy Seager, they have the left side of their infield set. But when will Seager...

Maintaining his career .741 OPS while piloting the Cards to a third place finish will undoubtedly cement Yadi’s place in the Hall of Fame.

In one more game played, the Cardinals have scored 63 fewer runs and allowed 40 more runs than the Cubs. Greg Holland and Tommy Pham account for the entirety of this disparity.

Re: The Cardinals

On a side note, not that it would ever happen. But if the Cards were willing to take Heyward back with his current contract if the Cubs took Dex back with his current contract, who says no first? Would anyone on this board make that trade? The Cubs say no first. And very quickly. Heyward might not ...

The Nationals are 7 games behind the Braves. and 3.5 games behind the Phillies for the 2nd wild card, with 3 other teams between them. Like, I'm sure Bryce will go supernova soon and they'll win 20 of 25 and this will all be a distant memory by the time the season is over, but damn. Now a game unde...

Caratini seems like the kind of hitter that would kill it in Coors. Lot of contact. Line drives to all fields.

Just sayin’.

Re: Midseason Assessment (aka - what do we need at the deadline?)

Oakland probably thinks they can make the playoffs next year (or even this year if Seattle stops being stupid lucky - they’re the freaking AL version of the Brewers), meaning they probably only sell a long term asset like Treinan if the other team pays through the nose.

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

As of about two weeks ago it looked like there was at least a chance for the Indians to piss away the AL Central to the Twins or Tigers. But they’ve won 10 of 15 and suddenly look pretty solid there.

Re: Morrow to the DL; Hancock stays up

Luckily haven’t had any back problems since my kids got old enough that I didn’t have to carry them anywhere. I used to make fun of “turf toe” until I got it. Slid my foot on some ice while delivering a combo washer-dryer set about ten years ago. It’s a dislocated big toe. Pretty much ended my runni...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

My order of preference would be... 1. Both leagues use no DH. 2. Both leagues use some sort of compromise rule like a “designated pinch hitter” who could bat three times in a game without the player he’s batting for having to come out. 3. Both leagues use the DH (Big space.) 4. Things stay the same ...

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

It’s kind of weird that Machado is less valuable as a shortstop than as a 3rd baseman, but it looks like his defense there is just that bad. bWAR, he and Russell have both put up 1.9 WAR seasons thus far. fWAR is 2.8 to 1.4. Even if you trust fWAR more than bWAR, that’s not enough difference to trad...

Trout already has 5.7 WAR. That puts him on pace to set the record, which is currently held by Ruth at 14.1 And six games out of the playoffs. Hopefully that on-paper mediocre Seattle team comes down to earth a bit and Trout has a chance at a playoff run. Baseball is better when its best players ar...
