Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

As of about two weeks ago it looked like there was at least a chance for the Indians to piss away the AL Central to the Twins or Tigers. But they’ve won 10 of 15 and suddenly look pretty solid there.

Re: Morrow to the DL; Hancock stays up

Luckily haven’t had any back problems since my kids got old enough that I didn’t have to carry them anywhere. I used to make fun of “turf toe” until I got it. Slid my foot on some ice while delivering a combo washer-dryer set about ten years ago. It’s a dislocated big toe. Pretty much ended my runni...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

My order of preference would be... 1. Both leagues use no DH. 2. Both leagues use some sort of compromise rule like a “designated pinch hitter” who could bat three times in a game without the player he’s batting for having to come out. 3. Both leagues use the DH (Big space.) 4. Things stay the same ...

It’s clearly affecting him as he’s on pace for a 4.8 WAR season.

Re: The Manny Machado Thread

It’s kind of weird that Machado is less valuable as a shortstop than as a 3rd baseman, but it looks like his defense there is just that bad. bWAR, he and Russell have both put up 1.9 WAR seasons thus far. fWAR is 2.8 to 1.4. Even if you trust fWAR more than bWAR, that’s not enough difference to trad...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Trout already has 5.7 WAR. That puts him on pace to set the record, which is currently held by Ruth at 14.1 And six games out of the playoffs. Hopefully that on-paper mediocre Seattle team comes down to earth a bit and Trout has a chance at a playoff run. Baseball is better when its best players ar...

Great signing so far.

So, basically identical to his last month and a half in Colorado. Imagine that.

Despite playing 18 of their games in Coors, they're 13th in the League in runs per game. That's raw, without taking park factors into account at all. Their team OPS+ is 80.

I always thought that if you were busted for roids while on the DL, you had to recover from the injury, be reactivated, and then begin your suspension. I thought they had lost him for however long the injury takes to heal + 80 games. Or maybe thats just how i think it oughta work, but man thats a b...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Kelvin Herrera has a 14 to zero K/BB rate over 13.2 innings.

That's pretty good.

He's probably pitching himself onto a contender by the deadline and then to a pretty nice contract in the offseason.

I don’t hate the Cubs trying to acquire Machado. I don’t hate the Cubs trading Russell. I do hate the Cubs trading Russell for Machado. That said, the Orioles are last in the AL is runs, BA, OBP, and SLG despite Machado slashing .344/.428/.606! How is that even possible? Unsurpringly, Machado leads ...

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado and the Cubs are interested per Gordo

If the Cubs could somehow throw Heyward’s contract into the mix, I could see Russell for Machado making some sort of sense. But there’s absolutely no way Heyward is waiving his NTC to go play in Baltimore.

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado and the Cubs are interested per Gordo

I have yet to hear a compelling reason why a team in the Cubs’ position (young, primed to compete for the next 4+ years) would trade 3 1/2 years of a 3 WAR a year player for 1/2 a year of a 5.5 WAR a year player that plays the exact same position. Why add a tiny bit to your chances this year while s...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

With all their other free agents and Zimmerman, Strasburg and Scherzer combining to make about $95M, will the Nats be able to sign Harper for $40+M per year and put a WS caliber team around him? I’m sure he doesn’t want to be National League Mike Trout.

Re: Corey Seager Done For Season, Tommy John Surgery

I doubt Merrifield or Gennett could handle SS, and Merrifield is still cheap enough that the Royals would probably require a hell of a lot. Galvis seems like a good fit, 1 year deal on a terrible team, but he's kind of terrible himself. I was figuring since Forsythe and Turner were also hurt, they’...

I don’t think there’s any question that Molina is one of the top 6 defensive catchers of all time. The thing is, of the others on the same defensive level as him, the ones in the Hall - Bench, Carter, Pudge - were significantly better hitters than him. The ones that are not in the Hall - Boone, Sund...
