I was thinking about that and Flaherty's most recent start today. They're still going to struggle to score runs with any consistency, but the Cardinals are going to have a monster rotation in 2019 and going forward.

Re: Regular Season Rumors

Outside of Vlad, Soto is your best bat in the minors ahead of both Bichette and Eloy in my opinion.

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado and the Cubs are interested per Gordo

Montgomery+Happ is about the absolute max I could stomach and to do that I'd need to feel pretty damn confident I could re-sign Manny.

Re: 2017 Post-Season Prospect Rankings (BA, Fangraphs, BP)

The next time the random Sox fan is pointing out that the Cubs gave up Eloy for Quintana, as if it was a bad deal, you can now point to the fact that the White Sox gave up Fernando Tatis Jr for a broken James Shields. Tatis is now a top 5-10 prospect on just about every list and getting comps to Ma...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

Following acquisitions of Verlander and Gerrit Cole, the Astros are looking pretty full in their rotation these days; specially with elite prospect Forest Whitley sitting in AA and not far off from the rotation. With that said, what does it take to land Francis Martes? He's a year off of being a top...

Can't say I'm real happy with how this is playing out because for me giving Darvish that 5th year over going a 4th year with Cobb is a no brainer.

Unless the Cubs are able to snag Darvish, it's going to be real disappointing they couldn't get Reed at that price and duration.

It really is. The only benefit is now that we only have like 5 weeks until pitchers and catchers there's almost going to have to be a constant flurry of moves starting soon.

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

I just can't get myself to want Jake back unless his contract is way below the supposed market value. I mean like 3/60, because even at 4/90 or something along those lines I just have zero interest. I hope the Cubs feel the same, because if that 4/112 rumor is true I'm going to vomit.

I like KC's return. I think Trevor Oaks is going to be a nice mid/back end starter.

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

Both Cobb + Cain and Darvish/Arrieta + Yelich put you reallll close to the luxury tax, and make 2019 much more complicated to pursue a high end FA(need to shed significant salary or be ready to go into the draft pick-punishing penalty). I'll believe it when I see it, as much as Darvish + Yelich wou...

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

From Rosenthal's article on the Athletic, sounds like Padres asked the Cubs about Javy (doesn't sound like we initiated it).... The Padres balked at the Cubs’ asking price for infielder Javier Baez at the winter meetings, moving on to other pursuits, sources say. The Cubs likely would have wanted a...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

I wonder if we are trying to do something like 3/70 (~$23 aav) with Arrieta or Darvish with it being broken down 25/25/20 first 3 years and opt out after next year with a ~$5 mil buyout. Give both a solid base if they want it but potential to get more entering a more spend friendly market next offs...

I"m honestly not even sure Arrieta is getting 100M anymore based on how this market is shaping up. 4/100 is about the most I could see someone shelling out.

Re: Orioles are shopping Machado (and he wants to go back to SS)

The knee surgeries don't bother anyone? Sure he's young, but with his bigger frame at SS and the wear and tear already on his knees I feel much less confident in his future than Harper's.

I feel like the Dodgers' needs are definitely more pitching related than bat. Even if they can resign Kershaw they're still going to have to go after an arm like Keuchel.

Losing 4 Years of Russell, for 1 year of Machado and then a 300+M FA contract in 2019, vs keeping 4 years of Russell and spending 350-400M on Harper. Pretty much a no brainer from my side.

God I want Yelich and then Harper on this team. That line up would be an absolute monster. Throw Happ,Almora,Alzolay and Ademan at them.
