Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-19-17

I know it would make sense to trade him for Chris Archer, but I think I'd get sick anyways.

Re: 2017 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

BA #202: Velazquez played at Lake Worth High in Florida as an underclassmen, but moved back to Puerto Rico after being ruled ineligible by the FHSAA. He had an outstanding showing at the Excellence Tournament in May, solidifying him for most as the second-best player in the Puerto Rico class behind...

Re: 2017 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Maybe I'm seeing something where there is nothing, but Theoyer is making it seem they're pretty desperate to get some quick moving arms into the system. Does this mean they're not going to be in on the FA pitchers this year and next?

Re: 2017 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Anyone heard anything about Tristan Beck? Unlike Allen, the announcers haven't even brought up his name at any point.

I don't have any inside info, but they both went approximately where they were supposed to so I'd think slot would be reasonable on both.

Zero interest. If his swing and miss issues are that bad in college, god help him as he advances in the minors.

I have this super unrealistic dream that Peterson somehow slides to us at 27.

Re: 2017 Draft Thread

Per the twitters, Daulton Varsho reportedly had a terrific workout for the Cubs. I remember somebody had us taking him as a big underslot in the 1st. Law? I'd be slightly disappointed with that pick, given how terrible the reports are on his arm behind the plate. And sign me up for the Schmidt/Alle...

Re: 2017 Draft Thread

Other than last year, this may be the first draft where I've gone into not having any kind of solid clue who it might be. At this point we're suspecting an underslot with the number of names mentioned both as the underslot and the overslot it should make tomorrow really exciting. I'd be extremely i...

He went 8th overall to the Phillies.

Re: 2017 Draft Thread

Romero's in is that he also is one of the best performing pitchers in this draft, a power LH at that. This FO definitely values makeup, but they also value dominant performance and that there are extremely few guys who do it almost naturally. If a guy's good enough suddenly there's grays to being a...

Re: 2017 Draft Thread

I just don't get it, what is McKay's appeal? He sits like 88-91 without overwhelming secondaries and on the 1B side my understanding is that he got fat on a lot of weaker competition. Taking him at #1 over Kyle Wright, I just can't fathom it.

Re: Cubs trading Soler to KC for Wade Davis

So is it even a question that Wade is getting a QO anymore? At this point I see it as a no lose. We either get a pick or we get a lights out closer on a 1/18ish type deal.

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

Not real thrilled with the idea of Gray versus what he's likely to cost. I'd be pretty pissed of any of Baez/Eloy/Happ were shipped off in a deal for him because he just hasn't been that good, better yes, but still kind of meh.

Re: 2017 Draft Thread

John: Is the Nate Pearson Mets buzz legitimate? Keith Law: I don’t believe they’d take him unless their board absolutely fell apart. Even then I’m not sure; you’re talking about a guy with an 80 fastball, but questionable secondary stuff and a screw in his elbow. Pretty big risk for top 20 … which ...
