Re: Tiebreakers and Makeups Rules

This is what I’m rooting for: Sunday: Cubs AAAA team beats Cardinals pushing them into a tie with Dodgers and Rockies. Monday: Dodgers defeat Rockies Tuesday: Rockies defeat Cardinals (in St Louis) Wednesday: Rockies defeat Brewers (in Milwaukee)* Thursday: Rockies vs Cubs NLDS begins Cubs beat Rock...

Kind of interesting. Cubs are .500 or better against every opponent except the Cardinals (7-9) and Indians (1-3).

Re: Tiebreakers and Makeups Rules

Then how would they determine for a potential LCS? Head to head results, I guess? If that were tied, I don't know what the next move would be - but then, since most inter-division matchups are 6 games per season, if one weren't completed, odds are someone would have the H2H edge. Let’s say the over...

Tiebreakers and Makeups Rules

I’ve seen it discussed a few places on here. I thought I knew these rules, but it turns out I was wrong, so I figured we could put them in a central spot. Tie Breakers https://www.mlb.com/news/playoff-tiebreaker-rules/c-59527184 Makeup Games Makeups/delays/suspensions/etc. are all handled by MLB Rul...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Yeah, but 7 times more likely to win the WS than the Braves? if you go by season to date stats, the odds should seem less wonky the projections obviously didn't have the braves being very good https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds/season-to-date/div That’s a lot better. The AL still gets...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

Fangraphs playoff odds are kinda ridiculous. I know those odds have long loved the Dodgers despite their struggles, but they are a game and a half out of first place in their own division, but have a 5% better chance of winning the World Series than the Cubs. Dodgers: 1.5 GB division 2 GB WC (with ...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

It's a call a crap shoot at that point, but I guess if you HAD to try and get all number-y with it, the AL having the Astros and Red Sox technically gives them the edge. An edge is one thing. 2-1 favs is another thing all-together. I’ve felt this entire season that their regular season percentages ...

What’s the current expected return/usage plans for Carlos Martinez and Michael Wacha? Is Martinez supposed to make it back to the rotation this year, or is he staying in the bullpen?

Re: 2019 Cubs schedule

The 5th of July Friday off day is nuts. Seriously, how did that get approved? there are 13 games scheduled that day, so 4 teams have off. 6 teams have off on July 4. The Reds are one of those teams, so it's a possible makeup date for earlier games (Cubs/Reds have 9 games schedule prior to 7/4). The...

Re: The Cardinals

I was watching the game against the Nats last night and the praise for anything any of their players do well is just so over the top gushing that it's gross. DeJong made a decent play in the hole and Bader made that jumping catch and it sounded like they had just made a World Series game 7 saving p...

Re: The Terrible Umpires Thread

Never forget Phil Cuzzi. He was the plate umpire for the no hitter by Hamels, both of the losses by Jake after May 17, 2015, the hack job that was Game 1 of the NLDS and the only umpire to ever eject Miguel Montero (catcher of 8000+ innings and batter of 4000+ plate appearances). Add the only umpir...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

According to Fangraphs the Cubs are at 86.6% chance to win the division. 97.4% to make the postseason. The Dodgers are the next closest team in the NL at 81.9% to make the postseason. Not bad considering the Rizzo slump, the Bryant injury and the starting rotation being trash.

I just spent the last 90 minutes or so watching the end of Game 7. Still makes me emotional. Nothing will ever top that. How much longer until Javy passes KB and Rizz in popularity in Chicago? Has it already happened? Of course, he was a huge Castro fan befor...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

I was wondering today, what is the average cost per plate appearance across the major leagues? If you figure the product the owners are selling are plate appearances, and the cost for them to provide them are the salaries of all the players being paid. It comes out to $24-25k/plate appearance. And t...
