Re: General Chit-Chat thread

Thanks for the info. I’m not one to get up in arms over privacy, because I think it’s being violated much more than I can possibly defend against, but pop up ads here and also on other platforms has become very...bizarre. For example, I was at work the other day talking to someone about how I want ...

Re: CDC Info on COVID-19 (Corona virus)

Assuming this data can be trusted, which is iffy at best, how can this be? https://twitter.com/news18dotcom/status/1267786677218615301?s=20 Could it lend credence to the idea of existing immunity (and Kyle's suggestion that it kind of burned out in New York)? I saw this article the other day, think...

Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

Owners: How about 80 games with weird sliding salary scale Players: How about 114 games Owners: 50 games, full pro rated salaries. Feels like either no season, or the players will end up negotiating themselves to the owners first proposal. ~75 game season with prorating and maybe a larger playoff w...

Hopefully there’s more of this going on and it just isn’t being reported. Trying to find some good/optimistic news right now can be hard.

From Kiley today, fwiw Where their farm system ranks: 24th Biggest system strengths: Up-the-middle bats Biggest system needs: Starting pitchers Six of the Cubs' top 10 prospects (and all of the top three) fit best at one of the up-the-middle defensive positions, and all have a real chance to be ever...

Asuaje horsefeathering sucks. I remember hating picking him up back when all we had to worry about were Cubs transactions.

Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

Yeah, the owners are trying to get the majority of players ($5 mil or less guys) on their side here. And/or drive a wedge between the majority of the league vs the minority high earners. https://twitter.com/jeffpassan/status/1265498501192040448?s=21 https://twitter.com/jeffpassan/status/126549861565...

Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

For people who are purported to be so smart, it's incomprehensible that MLB owners don't realize the damage they're doing to their sport. I saw this pointed out on Twitter and didn’t realize it. The majority of the league, 70%+, makes under $5 mil. This new proposal comes close to the ~50% pro-rate...

Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

I’m hoping these are just negation tactics with leaking stuff to the press and it is one of the first offers, but man if they horsefeathers this up and don’t play this year (lets assume it can be done in a safe manner) and then strike in 2 years MLB is going to have some serious long term viability ...

Yeah I think you go upside/risk with the picks this year and then go get the more projectable, higher/safer floor dudes in the UDFA part. Daniel Cabrera is probably my favorite pick if they do go with a “safe” pick at 16.

Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

So either MLB is flat out lying or the players didn’t read or didn’t understand the prorating language/section in the agreement/had it explained to them poorly. Idk if MLBPA/Clark deserve the benefit of doubt they have an air tight agreement that didn’t allow for any sort of exclusions/conditions wi...

Re: 80 game season with expanded playoffs, starting in July

Don’t listen to Passan on Woj’s or Russillo’s most recent pods if you want hope of a season being played. Sounds like it’s just a complete horsefeathers show and no serious talks have even started yet. A few highlights (or lowlights); - “There definitely are over leveraged teams out there looking at...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

From the link Raisin posted in the minors thread regarding Hernandez; Zac Veen, OF, Spruce Creek HS (Florida). Age: 18 There appears to be some legitimate smoke that Veen might not be as high within organizations as he is throughout the draft industry. While a hypothetical drop could possibly lead t...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

There's obviously no sports right now so forgive the length. I spoilered a lot of the longer discussions. The addition of Kantrovitz as the Cubs new scouting director adds another wrinkle to evaluating which players they may be prioritizing. I looked at the drafts when he was the scouting director ...

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

^^ Appreciate that link, RJ Anderson's offered quality prospect content over there lately. Cabrera should be an easy first rounder and wouldn't be surprised if as many as three others in that group join him with Loftin most likely. I like Foscue or Workman in the third or later for the Cubs. Workma...
