Re: Offseason Transactions

Could StL be loading up on cost controlled pitching to flip to the Marlins for Yelich? They think Pham is the second coming of Jesus. Ozuna/Pham/Dexter is their OF Dexter’s arm in CF was weak and can only be worse in RF. We are going to take so many extra bases on his arm out there. It’s crazy he’s...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

Below is a list of Brewers that Steamer projects to reach 2 WAR this year: I shouldn’t care about them as much as I do, but I’m surrounded by mostly idiot Brewer fans where I live and much of what they think that board regurgitates. They can think what they want about us, they’re wrong, but I can’t...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

Also, it remains so silly that the idea that 'you might have more good players than you can afford 3 years from now' is considered a risk. Sure maybe you don't have the flexibility to extend a guy that far out, but it's just as much a feature in case Russell or Schwarber's bat doesn't come back aro...

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

Semi-related to the current discussion about the core and keeping guys, future spending, etc (since this offseason is so boring I’ve been reading other teams boards more often) Brewerfan.net is doing that thing again where Theo woefully horsefeathers up our window and it’s now closed or significantl...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

The signing of Duensing right after the Rangers announced they were out certainly appears to be the Cubs positioning themselves to go into the season with Montgomery in the starting rotation. i think all it does is free montgomery to play the swing role again and make spot starts without relying so...

Adjust our win total by at least 3 wins with this greaseball off that team.

Re: THE Bryce Harper in 2018 Thread

I also really don’t see the “want to sign homegrown stars” thing being in the way. Sure with arb/contract raises kicking in the payroll will increase but right now Bryant is the only guy who you’d project worth giving big money to come FA/need to be aware of long-term budget wise. Russell, Schwarbs ...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

The whole idea of waiting for the deadline to fill a rotation or other hole is fine, but what worries me is that we obviously don't have the top end prospects (sure in 6 months a guy or 3 could rise) but more than likely it's going to take guys on the major league roster to add anyone of significanc...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

How bad would it be if the Cubs were to just sign Vargas or Tillman (or insert the low rent stop gap of your choise) for pennies, sign an outfielder, and then say, “Nah, we good?” If any of Arrieta, Darvish or Cobb is still unsigned five weeks from now, reapproach then with a real low ball offer. I...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Players union rejected the league’s pace of play proposal (personally I’m glad)........ but in talks about it the players brought up bringing back bullpen carts and apparently it didn't get far....... who could be against bringing back these glorious things?!?!?! http://www.mlb.com/images/8/1/2/2420...

Re: Golf shop recommendations

GolfSmith or GolfGalaxy (they merged or got bought on by one and I forgot which one it is now) would be a good place to go if there’s one around you, there should be. They have the indoor simulators to analyze what you need and carry every brand. I’m not familiar with the area outside of that to kno...

Re: Bears 2018 Offseason: Matt Nagy Hired as Head Coach

I keep seeing one of the QBs at 1 to Cleveland and Barkley being the 4th pick, unless they really love one of the QBs (which it doesn't seem to be clear yet) idk why they wouldn't just take Barkley 1 to insure they get him and take one of the QBs at 4 (since only 1 will go before 4 if they don't pic...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

Jake has “only” made a little more than $30 million in his career, I’m guessing he has an offer out there for at least double that in guaranteed money. While that would likely disappoint him and maybe he’s being stubborn..... I don’t think he’d be dumb enough to risk it and not take that at the end ...

Willson put up more WAR last year in only ~115 games than Yadi has put up in any of the last 4 seasons.

Also Yadi considering himself in the same class of Buster is laughable

Re: Bullpen Options

Marrow/Cishnek replace Davis/Rondon?. If they end up keeping Grimm & Montgomery this wasn't the pen overhaul I was expecting this offseason. The pen was mostly very good last year, it didn’t need an “overhaul.” Barring crazy injuries it’s going to be a top 3-5 pen in baseball. Morrow and Carl h...

Re: Bullpen Options

I don't get the negative sentiment. Last year was the first year since 2013 he had a xFIP/FIP under 4 and he’s 35. With all this talk about being extra careful with the LT it just seems like an unnecessary $3.5 million in aav to have on the books the next 2 years. I’d prefer to go the NRI route wit...

Re: General Baseball Chit-Chat Thread

It’s tough for me to see it being Jake because at worst he’s probably looking at 3/55 and probably will end up around 4/85. That’s still a lot especially since he hasn’t made a ton in his career. Moustakas was my guess because he actually isn’t very good and I could see him having only 1 year deals ...
