Re: The Cardinals

Of course they do, then the Cubs will have no money while only fielding five 5+ win position players to go along with several 2-4 win players. How can you win like that? our farm system will never be elite again True. There are only a finite number of good prospects assigned to each team and no var...

Re: Sports Media Thread

Nobody at ESPN has any horsefeathering clue what they're doing as they die the slowest of deaths. Yeah it was a weird partnership from the start, especially from ESPN's side. They had to of known they were going to get blowback by doing a show with them and had to of calculated it was "worth t...

Re: Hinske out (and heading to the Angels)?

Damn, seemed like a good dude (don’t know how great a coach he was) but seemed to be legit friends with a lot of the guys seeing them interact in the dugout. Good for him though. Part of having an amazing team/organization is losing coaches to promotions.

Re: Chris Bosio Fired

my friend who is a pretty knowledgeable rays fan is not pleased with hickey leaving What does he say about his pitching philosophy (Hickey) and how he handles pitchers? I also wouldn't mind interviewing M. Maddux and J. Farrell and seeing which one would be the best fit. The job does seem to be Hic...

Re: Starting Pitching Options FA 2018

Good stuff, as always, Duke. I didn’t do as deep a dive as that but the velo and more surface Home vs Road splits were things I looked at and stood out. Him only being 28 come next year helps too. What’s the thought on what it would take to get him? Is my 2/32 even in the ballpark? Think it will tak...

Re: Starting Pitching Options FA 2018

Having some time to look at options today........ Tyler Chatwood really intrigues me quite a bit. I would be all for giving him the deal Lackey had, 2/32. I could live with a Chatwood and Cobb offseason then try and find a Monty type guy to trade for that wouldn’t cost a major piece and would have m...

Re: Theo's Presser

While no one doubts his range and overall fielding, there were some serious issues with Russell's arm strength and accuracy this past season. He was like 2nd in DRS at SS in all of MLB even with his missed games, unless he has some degenerative issue in his shoulder/arm he’s the SS of the next deca...

Re: Theo's Presser

Would arguments for Russell be lower than any of them? Starting to wonder if the FO likes Baez at short. I don’t see any indication by what they’ve done or said that would suggest they like Baez more than Russell at SS. This (posted above) would be the closest thing to that... https://twitter.com/E...

Re: Theo's Presser

Out of all the hitters that might be on the trading block who could we get the most in return for? If you include Baez in that group(even though his odds of getting dealt are near nil), then it's him. After that, it's probably very situational depending on a team's evaluation and their needs. There...

Re: Offseason for the Offense

those 2 would surprise me the least, especially Schwarber Russell has got to be the most untouchable player on this team not named Bryzzo Willy. Not even close. Willy and Russell are both in the same group for me below Bryzzo in terms of untouchableness. Neither should really be available unless it...

https://twitter.com/ChrisDeLuca/status/921836085877133312 anyone know when the FO suggested Bosio would return or is he just making stuff up? if it's based on Theo saying it was up to Joe what coaches returned? because that's not that. Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

2 of Almora/Schwarber/Happ, Monty and a combo of the following guys; Zagunis, Zas, Albertos, Caritini, Tseng, De La Cruz for Betts or Benintendi (lead off hitter), Price (Red Sox throw in ~$50 mil of remaining ~$150) and Eduardo Rodriguez. Who says no?

Re: Most likely to be traded?

I think Happ is most likely. I think in the end nobody gets traded and that would be my bet. I think they like (rightfully so) all of Schwarbs, Javy, Almora and Russell (Russell is nearly untouchable to me) too much that they wouldn’t be moved for anything less than a Archer, DeGrom or Stroman level...

If it is Hickey I wonder if that means they’d really go hard after Cobb or McGee in FA or Odorizzi in a trade.

This also could be simpler that it’s a Maddon/Renteria situation. They were perfectly fine with Bosio but a much better coach became available in Hickey so they are doing whatever it takes to add him.

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

The Cubs have averaged 97 wins a year for a 3 year span(most in MLB), have made the NLCS all 3 years, and won a world series. They lose 2 of their best 15 or so players, and only one or two others are on the downside of their careers. Whether they've met the narrow definition of dynasty, and worrie...

Re: Offseason for the Offense

I agree, this is likely how it plays out. While there will be rumors and options (I already proposed in transaction thread Happ+minor leaguers for Yelich and a contract) I think ultimately the whole offense is coming back. I submit Cameron Maybin for the RHH OF FA. I think the pitching is brought in...
