Re: Theo's Presser

While no one doubts his range and overall fielding, there were some serious issues with Russell's arm strength and accuracy this past season. He was like 2nd in DRS at SS in all of MLB even with his missed games, unless he has some degenerative issue in his shoulder/arm he’s the SS of the next deca...

Re: Theo's Presser

Would arguments for Russell be lower than any of them? Starting to wonder if the FO likes Baez at short. I don’t see any indication by what they’ve done or said that would suggest they like Baez more than Russell at SS. This (posted above) would be the closest thing to that... https://twitter.com/E...

Re: Theo's Presser

Out of all the hitters that might be on the trading block who could we get the most in return for? If you include Baez in that group(even though his odds of getting dealt are near nil), then it's him. After that, it's probably very situational depending on a team's evaluation and their needs. There...

Re: Offseason for the Offense

those 2 would surprise me the least, especially Schwarber Russell has got to be the most untouchable player on this team not named Bryzzo Willy. Not even close. Willy and Russell are both in the same group for me below Bryzzo in terms of untouchableness. Neither should really be available unless it...

Re: Chris Bosio Fired

https://twitter.com/ChrisDeLuca/status/921836085877133312 anyone know when the FO suggested Bosio would return or is he just making stuff up? if it's based on Theo saying it was up to Joe what coaches returned? because that's not that. Never know what could have happened between Thursday and this m...

Re: The Starting Pitching Trade Candidates

2 of Almora/Schwarber/Happ, Monty and a combo of the following guys; Zagunis, Zas, Albertos, Caritini, Tseng, De La Cruz for Betts or Benintendi (lead off hitter), Price (Red Sox throw in ~$50 mil of remaining ~$150) and Eduardo Rodriguez. Who says no?

Re: Most likely to be traded?

I think Happ is most likely. I think in the end nobody gets traded and that would be my bet. I think they like (rightfully so) all of Schwarbs, Javy, Almora and Russell (Russell is nearly untouchable to me) too much that they wouldn’t be moved for anything less than a Archer, DeGrom or Stroman level...

Re: Chris Bosio Fired

If it is Hickey I wonder if that means they’d really go hard after Cobb or McGee in FA or Odorizzi in a trade.

Re: Chris Bosio Fired

This also could be simpler that it’s a Maddon/Renteria situation. They were perfectly fine with Bosio but a much better coach became available in Hickey so they are doing whatever it takes to add him.

Probably by starting with the realization there's not "junk" to shore up.

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

So it seems like there's going to be a billion of these written this offseason because it's the easy, lazy, click baity thing to do. I would say have Duke put on the front page to the rebuttal of all this nonsense we've seen on this topic lately, but with his jinx powers he's the only thing I'm wor...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

The Cubs have averaged 97 wins a year for a 3 year span(most in MLB), have made the NLCS all 3 years, and won a world series. They lose 2 of their best 15 or so players, and only one or two others are on the downside of their careers. Whether they've met the narrow definition of dynasty, and worrie...

Re: John Mallee

Apparently I'm the only one who thinks the Cubs guess too much. But let me just say I have no doubts the offense will be better next year and the team will be one of the best teams in baseball again. I just thought this my be a way they could improve. Always open to ideas and not attacking you but ...

Re: Offseason for the Offense

I agree, this is likely how it plays out. While there will be rumors and options (I already proposed in transaction thread Happ+minor leaguers for Yelich and a contract) I think ultimately the whole offense is coming back. I submit Cameron Maybin for the RHH OF FA. I think the pitching is brought in...

Re: John Mallee

If anything, go hire Terry Pendleton as assistant hitting coach and assign him purely to Heyward (Pendleton was the hitting coach his rookie year). I thought about suggesting something like this, but don't we already have a assistant hitting coach and Maddon helping too? If we hired another, I'm wo...

What was ridiculous about what I was saying? The notion that you're letting a small sample of playoff games, in which we faced Strasburg x2, Kershaw x2, Darvish, Scherzer, Rich Hill and Jansen a bunch cloud your judgment that somehow our offense is bad and it's the hitting coaches fault. The offens...

Re: Dusty Canned

It's kinda weird that no team has asked to interview Dave Martinez while he's been here. I hope it's not some known flaw or lack of skills he has that is known within MLB that keeps that from happening and teams just think he won't be a good manager, because he seems to check a lot of boxes. I hope...
