Were the 1998-2004 Cubs a dynasty? Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

championships it's all luck but it still comes down to championships for that word to be invoked. more than one. probably more than 2. the 90s yankees and the 2010s giants. That’s fair, to me I think that’s a little rigid given the nature of baseball. But certainly get it. 1 WS win and 5+ years of ...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

What’s the definition/benchmarks of a dynasty in MLB? WS win, averaging mid 90s wins and leading mlb in total wins over a 4 year span (with a decent chance it’s a 5-6+ year span), 3 NLCS appearances, and guys winning MVP and CY Young on the team during the run seems pretty close to a dynasty in MLB ...

Pretty sure that’s right. I think he also attempted to be a switch hitter early in his minor league career but scrapped the left handed hitting pretty quick.

Mna, it seems like pretty much everyone is there. Who have we not seen yet? Baez, Rizzo, Zobrist, Lester...Almora? Lester is there, I saw some picture of him the other day. Think you’re right on the other 4 guys though, it looks like Javy might have gotten there today/yesterday. If Almora never wan...

https://twitter.com/mattkellyMLB/status/1096243006989107200?s=19 Did we know that Edward's had the best fastball spin rate in baseball? Also, does Carl not have a dedicated thread? I didn’t know about his spin rates, but I guess it makes sense since his numbers/effectiveness of his FB in the zone a...

Re: 2019 Bold Prediction Time

One bold prediction on the division I’ll make is it takes under 90 wins to win the division (88 or 89) largely due to the strength of the division dragging down win totals.

Either Heyward or Chatwood has a monster year. 4+ WAR minimum. I'm not sure I want to consider what circumstances would have to come together for Chatwood to even get that opportunity... I’m starting to talk myself in to Chatwood being a reasonably valuable thing out of the bullpen so let’s get nut...

After his horrible April, in which he played hurt with a bad back and went on the DL/sat out. He hit .303/.393/.512 with a 139 wRC+, .380 wOBA, 24 Dongs, 11% BB and K rates with a sustainable .300 BABIP from May 1 through years end. He was pretty much his same self after a bad and injured month. Ov...

Re: 2019 Bold Prediction Time

Is predicting that Anthony Rizzo, he of the steadily declining offensive production, will continue to decline offensively really that bold a prediction? Well, no. But then that wasn’t exactly my prediction. I was thinking more what was said on the previous page, largely because it's something I've ...

Re: Cubs sign Xavier Cedeno

The velocity drop is like for like, not a function of the fact that he dropped the four seamer. Cutter velocity: 2014: 90.2 2016: 88.2 2018: 86.6 Missed that. I didn’t look back 4 years. I guess at least the Cutter was elite last year. Which is promising. He seems fine as a loogy if he’s treated as...

Re: Cubs sign Xavier Cedeno

A pure LOOGY, a dying breed. And judging by his precipitous velocity dropoff the past three seasons, possibly a dying arm too. Don’t think he had a velo drop last year? He went from throwing a 4-seam FB to a cutter and that historically for him has been 2-3 mph below the 4-seam and he was around hi...

Re: The Cardinals

Martinez might stay in the bullpen this year according to Maddux. I’d assume that’s an indication of an injury or way to prevent one. Their rotation suddenly seems like it’s on unstable ground between Martinez’s role, Wacha and Reyes back from injury (again for both), Wainwright’s old tomato farming...

Good loogy, means Duensing is likely gone. So yay for moves making us better!

Edit:

Minor league deal it appears, so there’s an open 40-man spot currently

That’s good to see the follow through and extension like that. You’d assume he’s healthy if he’s doing that.

Re: The 2018-2019 Cubs Offseason Rumors & Discussion Thread AKA The Rickettssss take a dump on EVERYTHING

I keep forgetting Marwin Gonzalez is still a FA. Unless there’s some sort of injury or off field stuff that isn’t public going on I’d be all for signing him and trading some combination of Almora/Happ/Bote, Kintzler and a prospect to the Padres for Hedges and one of their RPs (preferably Castillo).
