Cubs Add Adbert Alzolay, David Bote & Oscar de la Cruz to 40-Man

Couldn’t find the old 40-man thread (thought we had one). Anyways should hear a few things tonight and tomorrow on who was added/left off.

Re: Offseason Transactions

Bobby Wahl was released by the A’s, he’s put up some pretty big K numbers in the minors (tho SSS in some cases) he was up for 7 innings last year and his Fb averaged 95 and looks like a primarily FB/Slider pitcher with a occasional curve and changeup. As a minor league depth bullpen guy he’s worth l...

Re: Offseason Transactions

Phillies released Mark Appel today. In a parallel universe, Appel won Rookie of the Year and a Cy Yong for the Cubs while Kris Bryant got released from the minors after flaming out. Is his arm completely broken or what? If it’s not he’d be a nice reclamation try even though his numbers suck. I thin...

Re: College Football - Week 12 (Nov. 18)

Wisconsin just isn't very good, I really want to see them lose just because them getting in the playoffs is going to leave out a better team.

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

Law wrote this about Hellickson in his "FA Bargain" article, as a 1 year buy low guy for our 2nd or 3rd SP addition to get reunited with Hickey to try and re-find the changeup he intrigues me.... Hellickson lost his changeup in 2017, turning him from a league-average-or-so starter into a r...

Re: General Cubs Chit-Chat

I’m not even mad at myself that I don’t recognize half of those guys From left to right.... Miggy, Hendricks, Schwarber, Travis Wood, Grimm, Borzello, Jake, Happ, Lackey. Don’t know what that group is doing together other than I saw someone say they think it’s Hendricks wedding this weekend. I’m su...

The Giants made an offer for Stanton and are willing to take on a good chunk of his contract according to Rosenthal

MLB is Investigating Their Balls

After commissioner Rob Manfred spent the entire 2017 season denying the baseballs were “juiced,” Major League Baseball has appointed a committee to conduct a study to determine whether that’s actually the case. According to Kristie Ackert of the Daily News, Mets assistant general manager John Ricco...

Re: The Mock Off Season Thread

Just spitballin here but, is there any chance the FO has any interest in Stanton? What kind of players would be involved if the Cubs took on the entire remaining salary? It seems they are saving up for Harper next year but Stanton would actually be cheaper (and older, I realize). Sign Cobb, Lackey ...

Re: The Mock Off Season Thread

Just a hypothetical, what would Hendricks bring back in the current market? Like could he get another teams Russell or Benintendi?

A few NSBBers might make good GM's after all.

Stanton to the Dodgers keeps them out of the Harper sweepstakes next year most likely

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

If it is just Britton (if it's a larger deal, Gausmen, Bundy, etc. I'd get it) I'd be pretty surprised and upset if it's any of the rumored guys from the ML roster going for him, especially this early in the offseason. I almost wonder if Montgomery would be the guy here. The Orioles can still put u...

Archer scares me that he only throws two pitches and if/when his FB velo dips how effective he can be.

It would be awesome if we could swipe one of these guys somehow. Are we out of the penalty box this coming July to go wild again?

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

legitimately keeping the powder dry for bryce harper wouldn't exactly break my heart. and i fully expect a trade for an SP on top of what looks like a very likely cobb signing. yeah, I have no expectations beyond what Rogers says above (cobb + closer) and a trade for a starting pitcher. sitting on ...

Re: Cubs Offseason Rumors

Jesse Rogers' article today saddened me quite a bit. Obviously, Rogers isn't great. But, it still made me think.... His off season expectations seem to be that Schwarber definitely is at the low end of his value and we're not selling low on him. He doesn't think Happ will bring back the young cost ...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

I just don't really think Jake has much left (as far as being an above average starting pitcher), even with him sort of reinventing himself and having success late last year. I get the worry and 2015 god mode is never coming back, might get 2-5 start stretches close to it but never for long periods...

Re: Starting Pitching candidates

Fangraphs top 50 FAs and salary predictions is out, Cameron has Arrieta at 4/96 and their crowd source median is 5/110 and average is 4.6/102.5. If his market is the 4/96 Cameron guessed I'd be all over that if we are going to spend any sort of real money on FA pitchers and not go cheap/through trad...
