Re: Politics & Current Events

I haven't seen this, but if it is as you say it is, then Biden deserves scorn for it-maybe not in the self-aggrandizing way de Blasio did it, but still. I HATE being in a position of defending someone I absolutely do not want to be the next POTUS. I don't like the guy at all, but I just don't want ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 6-19-19

Excited to see Nunez in the rotation , hopefully he'll stay there even with the influx of 19 draftees (even if they only get 30Ip) May I ask why? Legit question, no snark intended. Projection, they seem to be doing better with LA pitchers with Nunez, he's still adding strength with a FB that sits l...

Re: 2019 Actual MLB Draft Day(s) Thread

Although Auer was my favorite of the prep players I seen the Cubs take (between him, Schlaffer, and Ritter), I'm glad they've been aggressive in signing the HS'ers and not really needing Auer as an insurance policy.

If it got me to years 65-80, sure. Not sure if it brought me to years 80-95. Food processing and moderation are the most important weapons to combat our diet epidemic. As much as the vegan community can annoy, their grip on the issue is much less significant than the meat, poultry and dairy industrie...

Re: ChiCargo Cubs - AKA that bad man can't hurt you anymore

Leo Gomez goes into that large, faceless pile of "people who played 3b at some point for the Cubs" with no differentiating traits. Honestly you could take any Hispanic-sounding male name and tell me they played 3b for the Cubs in the 80s or early 90s and my brain would say "oh yeah, ...

I was expecting a slower development with Davis, been extremely impressed with his approach.

Re: Politics & Current Events

That message would be better than "look at the clown Trump" message of 2016. That is a LARGE portion of Buttigieg's message at this point, and it seems to be working out nicely for him. I don't think its a bad way to go (without completely abandoning an actual platform). The problem in 20...

That message would be better than "look at the clown Trump" message of 2016. It's not difficult to have various platforms that include all of the issues that are important. Personally, (I might be in the minority here) I hope Pelosi makes a statement stating that Mueller basically said tha...

Re: Politics & Current Events

I'm waay too lazy to look it up again, but upthread I posted polling data that showed Milwaukee African-American turnout in particular was depressed in '16. I guess I'd much rather expend resources on them than Trump voters. The best way to court Trump voters is to hope they forget to vote or somet...

Re: 2019 Draft Thread

The reaction here to the Cubs 1st pick draft will be.... Initial - "Meh" After some processing -"Eh maybe? Hopefully they're saving money for after the 1st 10." More processing -" I can see why" Final conclusion - "good pick." Then he becomes Almora. Rinse and...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-28-19

I think they locked in his stride, looking at his HS and UL delivery his stride was inconsistent. Also, coming off TJS will take time.

He only had 48 IP of college.

Hopefully, he makes it as a starter as he's top 5 in organization as far as pure stuff ahead of former 1st rounders.

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-28-19

Glad to see Remy get another start for sB! He's intriguing in that he was scouted as only having a FB and not much else. Yet, his Ks indicate that there must be good secondary stuff. Combine that with his ability to throw strikes as well as a frame similar to Edwards (already sits low to mid 90s), g...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 5-27-19

It might be time to start talking about what Vimael Machin is doing at Tennessee. As a 25 year old, he's definitely overage. He's progressed through the minors with strong plate discipline, good contact and no power. He had half a season at AA last year and did...okay. But this year, he's walking n...

Re: Trade targets 2019

I like Giles as a reliever but he seems like a headcase. Also yes, the Astros gave up (what at the time seemed like) a lot to get him and then sold super low to acquire a domestic abuser. Also: The Cubs have claimed righty Chandler Shepherd, per Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times. Shepherd ...

Very good hire under these circumstances, recruiting AAs in Chicago just got more complicated for other programs.

Hopefully he can retain a high % of assistants.

Question for anyone who thinks Warren's rhetoric about Fox was too harsh or "too far Left" and whatnot...do you think the Democrats should avoid a similar approach in talking about the latest developments in Alabama? If she went on to Fox, there's no chance in hell she gets a Democratic l...

See what Memphis wants for Conley or hope Reddish is there.

I can't wait for them to draft a player based on how well they get back on defense.

Mechanically he's inclined to make contact, there's some uppercut but nothing extreme. It's a combo of being a guess hitter, no protection, and pressing. I've been burned by 4 tool Of'ers who swing and miss (Kyle Gaedele) and obviously Jackson leaves a bad taste. I'm not worried about his foot injur...

PG Garland from Vandy is worth the pick at 4-5. After him and Morant, there's not a PG until the end of the 1st.
